8 Ways To Build Relationships Online - Social With Sara

8 Ways To Build Relationships Online - Social With Sara | Social Media Relationship Building | Scoop.it
With social media marketing, you must build relationships. It's about making friends. Being a friend. Listening and sharing. It's not about selling.

Blogger Sara shares 8 ways we can build our relationships online. In particular, this article is about building a relationship in order to market your product or company. She stresses the importance of the relationship rather than just selling - a lot like what we learned about companies needing their fans just as much as fans need them.

This article is similar to "7 Technology Trends Transforming Consumer Communication" as both articles discuss the importance of relationships as a marketing tool. Technology is changing the ways in which consumers are introduced and taught about products.

Social media allows for companies to build relationships with thousands, if not millions, of people. They are able to reach people all over the world. It's no wonder that companies are using social media to their advantage.

However, as with anything, there's a right way and a wrong way to build relationships online. Sara gives us 8 ways to correctly do so:

1. Share

2. Ask Questions

3. Blog

4. Say "thank you"

5. Initiate Conversations

6. Write Personal Notes

7. Retweet

8. Comment on Blogs

The above list might seem like common sense, but I've noticed that companies that actually engage with their fans seem to have higher amounts of followers and comments. Sharing posts from similar companies (for example, I'm following a few non-profits that work with veterans). They share other non-profits work as well, which to me makes them seem less selfish and more involved with their cause). Asking their fans questions such as "what do you think of this?" or "what would you like to see from us?" shows both the customers that they care, and allows for the company to ensure they make their customers happy.

Writing personal notes is always a good sign from a company. For example, I often see Dove replying to comments on their Facebook page, directly naming the person they are responding to. It lets followers know that the company is actually reading what they have to say.

Media technology affects all kinds of relationships, not just personal ones. But by building a more personal relationship with consumers, a company's image increases and they are likely to succeed in reaching out to more people.
