Monique Moore's insight:

I thought this article was interesting because I love Instagram, and I think it is growing and changing so quickly. People follow their favorite brands and most probably don't think that that company even notices a new follower among thousands and millions. This article talks about how brands study their followers on Instagram to get to know them and use the information to their benefit. I have an Instagram account and I personally wouldn't think about this happening so it kind of opened my eyes. What kind of information about me are they interested in? How do they retrieve it? How long do they keep it for? These are some of the questions that come to my mind.

Measuring What Matters in Social Media

Measuring What Matters in Social Media | Social Media Metrics | Scoop.it
Rather than focusing on potential fans, savvy social brands hone in on quality activity and interactions.
Monique Moore's insight:

In the article, Measuring What Matters in Social Media, the author, Tania Yuki, says that bigger is not better when trying to indicate the value of a brand’s social community. Numbers do not show how effective a brand’s social media presence is. She believes there are three main building blocks to drive social media marketing. The first building block is growth and engagement. This allows the brand to understand the effectiveness and efficiency of your social media efforts by measuring audience size and engagement over time. The second building block is content strategy metrics. This shows the tactics that produce the most compelling content and when to post it. The third building block is audience quality metrics. This evaluates the characteristics of your social audience, gauges their loyalty and affinity to your brand, identifies influencers and advocates, and determines their engagement with your content over time relative to your competitors. I think measuring social media this way is extremely useful to brands today because consumers receive an overwhelming amount of informations about brands. Companies need to know how to capture the consumers’ attention.

Social Media Marketing is all about Building Relationships
Social Barrel
To determine how far customers are in terms of their response to the social media campaign, analytics postulate metrics in the form of likes, views, clicks and others.
Monique Moore's insight:

This author talks about why using relational metrics is just as, if not more, important than using positional metrics. Current social media metrics measure likes, follows, customer acquisitions, cost per lead, reach, frequency of brand impressions, and product sales, etc. However, this author believes this does match up with what social media is all about, which is building relationships. He says that companies and brands should focus on creating, fortifying, and gauging relationships with their community. I definitely agree with this because I know that if I feel a strong connection with a brand, I will be more likely to check their accounts to see what they've posted. But if I see something from a brand I have no relationship with, I'll most likely just scroll right past it without a second thought.
