Ryan Somlai's insight:

This is relevant not only to social media marketing, but to my actual real life encounters. Many times I have seen friends repost an instagram picture in the hopes of receiving free goods. A recent example was with Chipotle. An instagram account claiming to be affiliated with Chipotle said that if you reposted the picture, in addition to following their account, you would be entered to receive a free Chipotle voucher. Many of my friends posted this, but I did not because common sense came into play. I think instagram needs to do something to prevent these scamming accounts from gaining followers through deception.

#SocialMedia: The Importance of Being Social - #infographic

#SocialMedia: The Importance of Being Social - #infographic | Social Media Marketing | Scoop.it
Social media is still a young platform when it comes to customer service. Both customers and companies are in the “figuring out” stage, where both parties are trying to understand how best to communicate with each other.

Therefore, it should come as no surprise that social media platforms have their own “rules of conduct” and “language”. Learning social media etiquette is an extremely important aspect of customer service on platforms like Twitter and Facebook. Equally as important is learning how to best manage your communications over various social media platforms.

With the right mixture of tools and a willingness to keep a tab on all conversations with customers, you can ensure that maneuvering your way around various social media channels and communicating with customers is as effective and efficient as possible.

Ryan Somlai's insight:

This site gives statistical evidence as to why and how social media marketing can be beneficial. Claims that as social demand for social customer care grows, so do customer expectations. It goes on to give examples of successful social media customer service examples, and also states that 86% of people have used social media for customer service at least once.

Key Takeaway: Brands do have a place on social media.

Ads or messages from brands are viewed the most of Facebook and Twitter. In order for a brand to be successful on social media they need to learn proper etiquette and language to speak to consumers. Once a brand has established their presence on social media it is important to monitor their popularity on social media.

This actually what I want to do when I graduate. I want to create campaigns that involve social media and connect to consumers (people) on a real level.

15 Facebook Holiday Contests You Can Create in Minutes

15 Facebook Holiday Contests You Can Create in Minutes | Social Media Marketing | Scoop.it
Here is some inspiration for your Facebook holiday contests: 63.4% of Facebook users say they are likely to share a link to a holiday contest or giveaway.*

Via malek
Ryan Somlai's insight:

Very relevant article because the holidays are rapidly approaching. Strongest statistic from this article: "63.4% of Facebook users say they are likely to share a link to a holiday contest or giveaway." These campaigns can be great for a company during the holidays, they just have to make sure that the contest/giveaway is relevant to their company. For example, a Toy Store company giving away and expensive BMW is not very beneficial to the toy store, because many people that want no part of the toy store but that do want a new car will be caught sharing this link.

Ryan Somlai's insight:

This article was very data and number based, but I found some of the data compiled to be very interesting. Some of the more interesting facts relating to social media is that 74% of CMOs believe they'll tie social media to hard ROI this year, 76% of businesses are using social media for business objectives. Another interesting fact is that Facebook is the most valuable social media platform in terms of ROI, but most companies are actually looking to increase their Youtube social media marketing in the next year.

Apple Is Warming Up To Social Media - Fast Company

Apple Is Warming Up To Social Media - Fast Company | Social Media Marketing | Scoop.it
Apple is hiring a social media guru in L.A. Will Apple finally tweet?
Ryan Somlai's insight:

Apple is a company that is not really known for its social media presence. They do have a youtube channel, but the comments are turned off, and their only social media presence mainly has to do with their AppStore. Apple is looking for a social media expert in the LA area, and it is rumored that this person might be working with the Apple beats subsidiary, which is located in LA. They are moving towards a new communication model that speaks in multiple voices and participates in two-way discussions with its customers and fans, as opposed to the old "single-narrator" model in which Steve Jobs articulated a single narrative at the time and place of his choosing.

Blue Sky event: How to boost your social marketing strategy - Chicago Tribune | Social Media Marketing | Scoop.it
A few of the most-followed people in Chicago gathered Monday night to share insights on being smart, cost-effective and loveable on social media.
Ryan Somlai's insight:

A very good article derived from some things a few social media experts talked about in Chicago. Talks about how having a lot of followers on social media is all just for "vanity" and doesn't really do much if consumers are not actually engaging with your product/company on these social media sites. There are programs such as Commandpost or Cartwheel that analyze all of your followers on facebook, and can tell you which fans are the most socially engaged. Also was interesting to read how the experts think that you will be able to purchase many things on social media in the next year. We are already somewhat moving in that direction, as Snapchat now has it's Snapcash feature where you can send money through the application, possibly in an attempt to compete with Venmo.
