Graig Angarella's insight:

This article simplified effective social media marketing strategies in 21 easy rules to follow. I especially liked how the article pointed out becoming an "expert" in the field is important. To me, whoever posts on behalf of the company should be an expert, because their comments will be much more insightful, rather than obvious. In other words, people are more inclined to want to know more about what you are advertising if you can add interesting statistics, or point out the benefits of your company. I couldn't tell you the amount of times I've skipped past an advertisement because it does not allow for any engagement by the customer. Secondly, try to post new material. Seeing the same things over and over again causes customers to grow tired of your site, and possibly unfollow your page. Lastly, adding lots of images and media is always beneficial, as the article points out!

Currently, social media is huge. New businesses can reach out and contact hungry customers without even meeting face to face or exchanging a physical brochure or coupon. It's free advertisement at its finest, seeing as how any business can open a social media account and begin to market your name, sell the brand. And the more activity a page gets the more popular and more chance it has to become a internet hit, people just want to see what's going on, like mindless zombies clicking away

Social media can also be used to target select groups. Everybody spills their loves and interests onto the internet for everyone to see. These websites allow you to access what people are saying and talking about which allows the marketer to directly streamline a advertisement to a customer who is already interested in the topic/restaurant

Graig Angarella's insight:

I enjoyed reading this article, because it seemed to go hand-in-hand with what we have learned so far in class this semester. In different terms, it simply outlines a successful marketing plan. To start, it mentions clearly defining your objectives and business goals. As we have learned, this is important and should always be the first thing we do. In addition to stating we should monitor our progress, the article says that we should re-assess our strategy at regular intervals. This makes sense, because it would keep complacency from occurring. Next, and as we know, we should correctly identify our target audience, and then after that, we should make sure to target the right social media platforms. One thing that differs however, is that the article recommends creating a social media calendar. I liked that it had mentioned identifying the best marketing channels as well to reach out in the best way possible to consumers. Lastly, step five discussed the Unique Selling Proposition (USP), and it's importance in social media marketing. The USP (which I just learned about today) is the crucial feature or set of features that sets your company apart from others in similar businesses. Overall, this article not only refreshed my memory towards a proper marketing plan, but also introduced new marketing tactics, that I could see becoming very useful for one's company.

5 Brilliant Ways to Use #Hashtags in Social Media Marketing ... | Social Media Marketing | Scoop.it
Now, my wife's social media activity revolves around reading other people's updates on Facebook and Instagram, so I wasn't mad or anything, just disappointed when she asked me "Why would you want to tag your posts?
Graig Angarella's insight:

As this article points out, using hashtags is now an 'expected' aspect of marketing.  97 of the world's top 100 brands tweeted at least once in the last 4 months using hashtags.  In addition, 67% of all the tweets posted by these companies included at least one hashtag.

Now for the results.  Those tweets with hashtags showed 12% more engagement (retweets, favorites, or replies) than those without, and tweets that included a link as well showed the highest amount of engagement out of them all.  I also found it interesting to see what the White House media team did during the State of the Union address.  By testing out 26 different hashtags, they were able to hone in on three specific hashtags and topics that sparked the public's interest.  Also, hashtags have become recognized across most forms of social media.  Lastly, creating a story and tracking results has seemed to be the new craze.

Graig Angarella's insight:

This article explains the mindset a business owner should have when marketing through social media platforms. I completely agree with this article's insight to spread the word of your company's social media presences, because that is what ultimately increases your follower base. The more people you connect with, the more attention your company receives, plain and simple. Some good ideas would be passing out flyers with links on them in highly populated areas, or commenting on online discussions with links somewhere included as well. More importantly, try to connect with people who actually fall under your target audience. Also, examining your competitors is crucial. Find out what works for them and come up with your own way to incorporate it in your own marketing tactics. Whatever doesn't work for them, be sure to avoid. When it comes to social media marketing, be patient. It takes time for sites to catch on, but continue to do what you need to, to slowly build followership.

Your Social Media Marketing for Less than $1 Per Day

Your Social Media Marketing for Less than $1 Per Day | Social Media Marketing | Scoop.it
Have you been frustrated with your social media interaction recently? Here are 4 ways to boost your social media marketing on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
Graig Angarella's insight:

I found this article to be very informative, in that prior to reading it, I had very little knowledge about the actual costs of paid advertisements on social media sites.  However as the article describes, the cost for advertising seems to be relative to the target market and broadness of the audience you are trying to reach out to. With regards to the author's opinion though, I would have to say that spending at least just a dollar a day would be very beneficial for any company.  It is one thing to advertise only through your company's specific site, but a whole new ballgame when you are able to advertise to the masses.  Despite not having an Instagram, I liked their idea of how one could advertise through it the most, out of all the sites mentioned.  To me, the most influential advertising method to use is word of mouth, and if a company is able to have a site on which countless followers post pictures of the company's products in use or even of those same customers expressing joy in using them, I personally would be most inclined to try out the product, or at least have a positive opinion of it.
