Christopher Pernell Thames's insight:
Pinterest is a great platform for marketing and selling products, no doubt about it but if you really want to gather a following, then be yourself! Stop being a business… yeah, you heard me. Stop being a business on Pinterest. The culture of Pinterest is not like that of Facebook or Linkedin, in fact, it is much easier to gather a following here than anywhere else in my opinion because all you have to do, is share the things that you like along with the things that you want people to buy.

Christopher Pernell Thames's insight:
The full integration of Social Media Marketing or SMM in businesses and corporations has not yet been fully, 100% embraced by educational institutions, “Big Box” companies, traditional marketers, or CEOs. There are 1,000s of metrics, 10,000′s of articles from reputable sources and hundreds of YouTube videos that confirm social media marketing in business has not truly broken the mold just yet. Just Google it or look at your own social media strategy, the data is there.

Christopher Pernell Thames's insight:

The most critical element that business owners FAIL to address is the Development of a Unique Social Business Culture, which should be constructed around Tailored Social Media Marketing Strategies while Developing an Industry Specific Culture of Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Industry specific and popular customer related keywords should be utilized in professional social media profiles to attract the attention of concerned prospective customers with a current problem. Essentially, key leadership and front-line management should present themselves as problem solvers in order to set the tone for employees. Yes! This means that you need a real strategy and a real plan just like anything else Business Process Improvement or Business Process Management related. Never downplay your social media strategy because you feel that it is not as important right now. Do not focus on the low risk, fast high Return On Investment or ROI. Instead, focus on staying consistent and being dedicated to your fan base, the money will come if you are truly passionate about helping your customers.

Christopher Pernell Thames's insight:

If you are not getting the ROI that you want in social media, then you need to constantly reevaluate, update and tweak your strategy. Having a successful social media campaign is really all about grit, consistency and relevant content. If it is not working for you, then bottom-line, you are doing it wrong! Number one, stop blaming social media for your lack of engagement or your failures. You must keep a positive attitude and remember that social media takes time. It’s not about going viral or always being connected to influencers. More than anything, it is about pooling your audience through content curation, discovering what the conversation is and creating content based on the collaborated knowledge. A successful social media strategy is really all about making yourself an influencer, getting influencers to engage in your content and getting your targeted audience to receive your message based on their interests. The problem for most professionals and businesses is that most marketing departments are not creative enough to trump competitors through engaging content. Rather if you want to accept it or not, social media requires a mapped out strategy, a budget and most importantly, engaged professionals that have an entrepreneurs intuition of creativity when evaluating the problems in customer relations management.

Christopher Pernell Thames's insight:
Quit waiting for things to happen and leaning so hard on your social media network, it’s time for you to act today! No, I don’t mean “act out” an online campaign or start sending out corny phrases of motivation in emails and through your Twitter network… I mean it’s time to really start giving more! Focusing on your business, branding yourself professionally and building a network is only a small piece of social media marketing. The most difficult part is separating yourself from your own business tunnel vision and your own daily investment to invest in someone else. It’s time for you and your business to start Out-caring & Out-sharing!

The Truth About Business and Social Media Strategy Failure

The Truth About Business and Social Media Strategy Failure | Social Media Marketing | Scoop.it
Whenever I go in to consult any organization regarding social media strategies or to discuss improving digital infrastructure to streamline a customer's experience and to help them make more profit...
Christopher Pernell Thames's insight:

Yes of course you want to make money, but some organizations want to make money before they address customer concerns… like putting the cart before the horse. In most cases, I always hear what they want to happen and what they expect the end result to be. The people in leadership usually always expect not having to invest anything to gain the ROI that most misinformed social media users always “hype” about. Most familiar to most as “The Magic Bullet“, that does not exist.

The first question that I always ask a business is, “What are your true intentions? Is it really to satisfy your customers or to make profit?”. Usually I will get the answer, “Both!” but I can tell by which way the conversation goes from here what the true intentions are of the leadership.

I can always tell when the leadership is blowing smoke because usually those conversations do not last very long and neither does any type of digital or social media strategy that they plan to implement. Bottom line, if this is how the leadership sets the tone for their business, then as a consultant or potential employee I do not even waste my time getting involved because it eventually reflects badly upon me as the digital program manager/social media specialist.
