» Key social learning resources: Part 14 #sociallearning C4LPT Blog | Social Media & Learning | Scoop.it

There have been lots of interesting articles and posts this week about social learning and the use of social media for learning. Here is my pick of just 5 of them1- I am going to start this week with a post by Jon Ingham, who was at the recent #CIPDSocial event, and in which he describes ARM’s very social business. Although the term “social learning” isn’t actually mentioned in the post, it is clear that this is fundamental part of the whole company ethos. Here are a couple of quotes from the article:

“Human, social and intellectual capital (the explicit stuff which they sell) are the company’s differentiation. Social capital has been at the centre of their HR strategy for the last decade – it’s the rocket fuel of the innovative organisation.”

“Part of the reason that ARM focuses so much on social relationships is that their strategy is about connecting, collaborating and hence innovating and their model for innovation is primarily about open innovation.”

When training budgets are adjusted, if we know how to, we may get strong support from where we least expect it - SOCIAL LEARNING.

The extent and effects of social media phenomenon are not much new. But what it is surprising is the lack of proactivity of many organizations in taking use of the beneficial elements of social media tools, under the pretext of IT security, confidentiality or protection of reputation. We will not address here the benefits in terms of external image of the organization, the interaction with the client to create new products or gaining new customers, but we will limit ourselves strictly to show some concrete and simple ways which the training and development process of employees can embrace starting from today and with visible results by all stakeholders.

Below we illustrate only examples of technology tools that do not require financial investment to implement, but only the compliance of the internal policies of IT security and of confidentiality.
