Study confirms execs resist social media because they’re afraid of change | Articles | Main | Social Media in SPC 419 | Scoop.it

It's interesting that company leaders are afraid of change like this article says. I would think with the obviouse success of Social Media, this would be a change company leaders would embrace.

I think they just need to understand what Social Media is and be shown how beneficial it is. In order to be a company leader, I think change is something that they should be open to. Give them time, and I'm sure most company leaders will be up for this change.

Facebook Groups Now Show Who Has Seen a Post

Facebook Groups Now Show Who Has Seen a Post | Social Media in SPC 419 | Scoop.it

Here's another one of Facebook's creepy add-ons. They have already implemented this in Facebook chat. It shows you if the recipient has seen the message you sent them or not.

Now when you post in a group it will tell you each person that has seen the post. This could just cause unncessary issues. I know sometimes when I read a post in a page I may not respond to it right away, but I've seen it. This is just a better way for those impatient people to gripe if you don't respond because they know you've seen the post.

Facebook Monitors Your Chats for Criminal Activity [REPORT]

Facebook Monitors Your Chats for Criminal Activity [REPORT] | Social Media in SPC 419 | Scoop.it

Just in case you were planning any criminal activity via Facebook chat, here you go! I would like to think there would be smarter people out there than to do that. This is a good idea though.

Let's just hope that this monitoring really does only look for certain words or phrases. I wouldn't necessarily want Facebook employees reading what I say to my friends or family.

Social Media Success and 7 Myths that Might be Slowing You Down | Reviewz 'N' Tips

Social Media Success and 7 Myths that Might be Slowing You Down | Reviewz 'N' Tips | Social Media in SPC 419 | Scoop.it

This is an excellent article. This kid, Daniel Sharkov, is pretty brilliant. I often use his articles for SPC 419. I'm guilty of doing quite a few of these things on my Social Media accounts.

There's a lot of helpful things in here. Plenty of things to think about and try to decide if you do them or not. I think I need to be online all the time. I'm constantly checking Twitter and Facebook just in case I missed something. I think it's time for a break.

Are You Afraid of Mobile Phone Separation? [INFOGRAPHIC]

Are You Afraid of Mobile Phone Separation? [INFOGRAPHIC] | Social Media in SPC 419 | Scoop.it

Well this sure is interesting! I honestly believe most of it though. It's pretty amazing that 11% of Americans would rather leave home with their pants rather than their phone.

I know I love my smartphone but not so much that I would leave half naked. I will turn around and go back to get my phone if I left it at home, which is rare. I'll admit I get separation anxiety when I forget it.

Nike Hosts Virtual Sneaker Exchange on Facebook

Nike Hosts Virtual Sneaker Exchange on Facebook | Social Media in SPC 419 | Scoop.it

I guess I don't really understand the point of virtual goods. If I'm going to trade something, I want to trade a real object. I'm confused how people get satisfaction out of doing things like this.

At first I thought Nike created an app for people to swap shoes. After thinking about it, that would be kind of gross probably. It's probably a good thing in this case the shoes are virtual.

There's a New Twitter for BlackBerry, But Does it Matter?

There's a New Twitter for BlackBerry, But Does it Matter? | Social Media in SPC 419 | Scoop.it

BlackBerry's moving up in the world! I can't believe their Twitter didn't have these functions yet. Things like viewing a picture on Twitter didn't exist. It's kind of shocking.

I do like that they can undo a retweet by tapping the retweet button again. I don't know if you can do that on the iPhone Twitter app, but I haven't tried. I didn't know that that many people still used BlackBerrys.

Congrats, Internet: Pitbull Is Going to Alaska

Congrats, Internet: Pitbull Is Going to Alaska | Social Media in SPC 419 | Scoop.it

This article shows just how far each Facebook "like" can go. It started as a prank and now Pitbull is actually going to Alaska. I find this amusing, and pretty cool.

Social Media is such an awesome tool. It can help accomplish so many things. This campaign also helped Walmart gain plenty of positive attention.

NBC’s New Take on the Olympics

NBC’s New Take on the Olympics | Social Media in SPC 419 | Scoop.it

My mind was blown when I read the second sentence of this article. I can't believe that one day of trials for the 2012 Olympics had more tweets than the entire 2008 summer games.

That statistic goes to show how many more people have joined Twitter since 2008. It's pretty crazy how much things change in a 4-year span. Twitter probably loves this news.

Timeline For Facebook Pages Rolling Out on Mobile

Timeline For Facebook Pages Rolling Out on Mobile | Social Media in SPC 419 | Scoop.it

I still have noticed that not everyone's personal Facebook page has the new timeline yet. I wonder why it takes so long to get it out for all the different pages and profiles that Facebook has.

I really like the timeline. It lets you personalize your profile a lot more just by adding the cover photo option. I think it's a great idea to have it for the pages on Facebook as well. It lets you get a feel for the company or product or service of the page you're viewing.

6 Ways to Drive More Pinterest Engagement | Social Media Examiner | Social Media in SPC 419 | Scoop.it

I still have yet to actually get into the whole Pinterest thing. However, this looks like a pretty good article on how to get interaction on your board. I'm still getting used to the Pinterest lingo.

In the article it says that Pinterest grew by 4377% since May 2011. That is pretty astonishing. There's a good tip in here about adding another contributor to pin on your board. That will bring more attention to your board.

Some Olympians Chafe at IOC's Social Media Rules

Some Olympians Chafe at IOC's Social Media Rules | Social Media in SPC 419 | Scoop.it

This article is an interesting read. It's about certain rules that Olympians have regarding what they share on Social Media. There's a great quote in here by American sprinter, Nick Symmonds, he said "Why would you want to handicap a form of media that only increases the exposure for your event?"

I have to say, I think I agree with him. One of the rules is to get permission from other athletes before posting a photo that might include them. I think that's a little much. If I take a picture of people at a concert, I'm not required to go around and ask permission before i post it. They're all at a public event. Especially if you're going to be an Olympian that just comes with the job.

Want to Be a Better Blogger? Let's Start With the Don'ts... | Reviewz 'N' Tips | Social Media in SPC 419 | Scoop.it

Here's another great one by Daniel. This is a great resource to be a better blogger. He lists the "don'ts" of blogging.

We need to care less about people's opinions that they have about our blog. That's not to say you shouldn't care at all. We should also be original with the content we post and how we get people to visit our blog.

11 Things You Didn't Know About Facebook Pages

11 Things You Didn't Know About Facebook Pages | Social Media in SPC 419 | Scoop.it

This is a pretty nifty article if you manage a page on Facebook. Looks like Facebook changed some things again and maybe didn't notify everyone. These are some tips and tricks to help you.

Facebook did this recently with the new Facebook email addresses. They changed everyone's email on their account to the new email and didn't notify anyone. Facebook got a lot of flack for doing that.

I love infographics! This is a pretty cool graphic showing how Fast Food chains utilize Social Media. It's interesting to see their response rates and how quick or slow they respond.

It's interesting that Burger King had the slowest growth. Then, scroll down a little and you'll see that they also have the slowest response rate (about 3 days). It's also neat to see the "smaller guys" on this infographic with the big time chains.

YouTube Becoming Increasingly Vital Platform for News [STUDY] | Social Media in SPC 419 | Scoop.it

I can't really say that I'm shocked that YouTube is gaining popularity for people to get news videos. I just never think to visit YouTube for my news. I generally go to Twitter.

I think it will be cool if YouTube goes all-in on this. It'd be a neat thing to visit YouTube for news as well as the entertainment that we all visit it for currently.

Here's another pretty cool article about the Olympics. It's a very smart idea on Nike's behalf. Although, they aren't an official sponsor of the Olympics, they are still benefiting during the games.

It's also neat that they'll be doing real-time ads during the games that go along with it. I'll definitely be checking these tweets out during the Summer Olympics.

Washington State Can Register to Vote on Facebook | Social Media in SPC 419 | Scoop.it

I think this is a pretty neat idea. I was wondering when this would start happening. It makes it so much easier in today's world to just go to your Facebook page to register to vote.

It's the perfect time to implement something like this, in the age of Social Media. I think a lot more people, especially younger people, will register to vote because it's so easy.

I don't know that I necessarily agree with the article 100%. I don't think that just becuase someone posts a lot on their Facebook that they like "high-risk activity".

I think this is a really great article. It shows that celebrities aren't just about their movies or whatever it may be that made them famous. I'm shocked by some of the people on this list though.

It's really neat to see people like Fran Drescher use Twitter to promote things like what she's promoting. I like that we can see what the celebrities really are passionate about.
