The Gamification of Education and Cognitive, Social, and Emotional Learning Benefits

The Gamification of Education and Cognitive, Social, and Emotional Learning Benefits | Social Media y Gamificación | Scoop.it
The current trend towards the increased use of games and game mechanics in instructional situations could probably have been foreseen quite some time ago. Stretching right back to the primitive gaming technology of the ZX Spectrum in the early 80′s, kids were hooked. As a wider variety and higher quality of educational games have been produced, it is really no surprise that educationists have gravitated towards further use of them as tools in the learning environment. Is this necessarily a positive development, however? A recent article on the subject makes for interesting reading.

In 2011, Joey J. Lee, Ph.D and Jessica Hammer, an Assistant Professor and Graduate Fellow from Teachers College Columbia University in New York, published this paper on the subject, entitled Gamification in Education: What, How, Why Bother? According to Lee, gamification can be applied to three different learning areas – namely, those covering ‘cognitive’, ‘emotional’ and ‘social’ needs of students.

AR SPOT: An Augmented-Reality Programming Environment for Children | Augmented Environments Lab

AR SPOT: An Augmented-Reality Programming Environment for Children | Augmented Environments Lab | Social Media y Gamificación | Scoop.it

AR SPOT is an augmented-reality authoring environment for children. An extension of MIT’s Scratch project, this environment allows children to create experiences that mix real and virtual elements. Children can display virtual objects on a real-world scene observed through a video camera, and they can control the virtual world through interactions between physical objects.

This project aims to expand the range of creative experiences for young authors, by presenting AR technology in ways appropriate for this audience. In this process, we investigate how young children conceptualize augmented reality experiences, and shape the authoring environment according to this knowledge.

The Hierarchy of Web Presence Optimization

The Hierarchy of Web Presence Optimization | Social Media y Gamificación | Scoop.it

This approach to being found organically will help answer two critical questions: how do you know if you’re maximizing your SEO investment given the changes Google has introduced and how you can sell your services and prove value to your clients?

Much has changed in the SEO landscape and the practice of search optimization over the past year – from the ongoing Panda and Freshness updates to the introduction of Google+ and Search Plus Your World.

Although a lot has changed, two aspects of SEO remain certain:

1) SEO isn't dead

2) The way we perform and measure SEO has to change and is changing

There are five different tiers in The Hierarchy of Web Presence Optimization:

1. Technical SEO Fundamentals & Foundation

2. Keyword and Competitive Research

3. Optimized Content Marketing Plan

4. Publish, Socialize & Share Content

5. Measure & Improve

Saludos, Diana.
