Duolingo, a free, language learning app with 5 million monthly active users, could soon go into overdrive with the number of languages it can teach by opening up its teaching system for anyone to install a new language.

Co-founder Luis von Ahn, who despite being 34 is considered one of the fathers of crowd sourcing and gave a TED talk on the subject, says he expects more than 50 languages to be added to Duolingo over the next two-to-three months, as volunteers start signing up to add their native tongues to its infrastructure. He created the company with Severin Hacker, a Swiss, PhD student of Von Ahn’s at the Carnegie Mellon School of Computer Science.

4 Ways To Use Twitter Custom Timelines In Your Marketing Campaign | Social Media & Digital Marketing | Scoop.it

A mere week after Twitter made its first foray into the stock market, the social networking site wasted no time in announcing a rather fancy new feature.

On Tuesday, it was revealed that Twitter Custom Timelines (I hope they come up with a snappier name for them soon!) have been added to their TweetDeck platform, giving users the chance to curate specific tweets to create a story or collection of tweets on a particular topic and share the content, either embedded on a website or using a .twitter.com link.

This is good news for my fellow Master's students. David Lankes would probably call them...NEW LIBRARIANS...
Alexina's curator insight, October 19, 2013 1:32 PM

There is an greatly increased demand for trained librarians with knowledge about digital libraries, ebooks, creating physical and digital archives. Today's and tomorrow's librarians have to be part techie. Being a librarian does NOT mean you only work for a library. Any organization that needs to organize information and present it digitally is a prime career location for librarians with the right skills. Two of the three American Library Association (ALA) accredited master degree programs in California teach these skills. My alma mater, San Jose State University School of Library and Information Science <http://www.ala.org/cfapps/lisdir/listing.cfm?id=1408>, which has totally online programs, is in the forefront of teaching both technical skills needed and traditional librarian skills. The infographic was created for the very new University of Southern California's online Master of Manaagement in Library and Information Science http://librarysciencedegree.usc.edu/
