To say "I'm busier than you are" means I'm more important, or that my time is more valuable, or that I am "winning" at some never-finished rat race to Inbox Zero. What you're trying to say with these responses is: I'm busier, more in-demand, more successful.

Are we so obsessed with competing with each other that we miss opportunities to communicate? You are going to miss opportunities to share time, feelings and connections with coworkers, family and friends.


Even worse, if you do take some time off, you don’t enjoy it. Why?  You’re worried and guilty about it.  That kills your creativity and makes you less valuable.


Since you don’t have time to learn how to collaborate, you’ll end up doing more of the work by yourself. No wonder that social business stuff doesn’t work. Your too dang busy!
