First ranking of universities in BRICS countries - University World News

Last Wednesday QS announced that it had been appointed by the Interfax Group, a leading information provider in Russia and Eurasian nations, to produce a ranking of the BRICS countries, to be called the 'QS University Rankings: BRICS'.

In the QS World University Rankings®, the position of Sultan Qaboos University has dropped from 377 in 2011 to 401-450 in 2012 and now to 501-550 in 2013. The university have contacted us requesting a statement as to the reasons for this and whether or not this reflects a genuine deterioration in performance for the university. The reasons are three-fold.

Chinese International Students. An Avant-Garde of Independent Travellers? | Smart Universities | Scoop.it

ABSTRACT

Though most long-haul Chinese travellers participate in group-based tours, many young Chinese are now travelling overseas to acquire educational qualifications. These ‘study tourists’ travel independently around their place of study, often accompanied by friends and relatives whom they are hosting. Understanding the characteristics of such independent behaviours may offer insights into China's future outbound travel market. This study of 1400 Chinese studying in Australia highlights distinctions between independent student travellers and youth travellers more generally such as backpackers. The findings challenge established typologies of independent youth travellers and raise prospective implications for marketers.

Nowadays, China hosts a little less than 10% of all international students and this figure is likely to rise. As an example, the aim of the Institute of International Education is to have 100,000 American students studying courses in China by 2014.
