Dlaczego powinnienes wyłączać WiFi na swoim smartphonie kiedy go nie używasz?

Dlaczego powinnienes wyłączać WiFi na swoim smartphonie kiedy go nie używasz? | Sieci Komputerowe | Scoop.it

Do you always turn WiFi off on your smartphone before leaving the house or work? You might think there's no harm in having WiFi turned on but not connected to a network, but you would be wrong.

Smartphones will attempt to connect to known/preferred networks if found to be available. An attacker could set up a rogue WiFi with the same SSID (names) as the one your phone is continuously trying to connect to - with the aim of causing your phone to auto-connect and transfer data through it. SInce your smartphone broadcasts the names (SSIDs) of your favourite networks for anyone to see, this isn't difficult to do.

So how do we stop our phones spilling our secrets behind our backs? The unfortunate news is there doesn’t appear to be an easy way to disable active wireless scanning on smartphones.

However, you can at least tell your phone to ‘forget’ networks you no longer use to minimise the amount of data leakage.

It's also worth configuring your phone to automatically turn on/off wireless in certain places using a location-aware smartphone app.

An added advantage to this approach is that it will also result in longer battery life between charges.

Czy promieniowanie z telefonów komórkowych i sieci bezprzewodowych jest niebezpieczne dla zdrowia?

Czy promieniowanie z telefonów komórkowych i sieci bezprzewodowych jest niebezpieczne dla zdrowia? | Sieci Komputerowe | Scoop.it

In fact, the great majority of us appear to be just fine. We all live in range of cell towers now, and we are all wireless operators. More than wireless operators, we're nuts about the technology. Who doesn't keep at their side at all times the electro-plastic appendage for the suckling of information?

The mobile phone as a technology was developed in the 1970s, commercialized in the mid-80s, miniaturized in the '90s. When the first mobile phone companies launched in the United Kingdom in 1985, the expectation was that perhaps 10,000 phones would sell. Worldwide shipments of mobile phones topped the one billion mark in 2006. As of October 2010 there were 5.2 billion cell phones operating on the planet. "Penetration," in the marketing-speak of the companies, often tops 100 percent in many countries, meaning there is more than one connection per person. The mobile phone in its various manifestations -- the iPhone, the Android, the Blackberry -- has been called the "most prolific consumer device" ever proffered.

WiFi to przeszłość, łącz się z Internetem za pomocą żarówek

WiFi to przeszłość, łącz się z Internetem za pomocą żarówek | Sieci Komputerowe | Scoop.it

Whether you’re using wireless internet in a coffee shop, stealing it from the guy next door, or competing for bandwidth at a conference, you’ve probably gotten frustrated at the slow speeds you face when more than one device is tapped into the network. As more and more people—and their many devices—access wireless internet, clogged airwaves are going to make it increasingly difficult to latch onto a reliable signal.
