Radiohead stage collapse: Charges laid in fatal accident | Toronto Star

Radiohead stage collapse: Charges laid in fatal accident | Toronto Star | Stage Rigging | Scoop.it
Three corporations and an engineer face a total of 13 charges in last summer’s fatal Radiohead stage collapse in Downsview.
Jordan Fleagle's insight:

During this stage collaps the drummer technician died from the impact. The stage setup was not properly completed and that resulted in death, serious injuries, and multiple charges against the stage rigging company.

Indiana tapes

Officials have released police tapes of the Indiana State Fair stage collapse.
Jordan Fleagle's insight:

Before the Sugarland show, there was a bad storm in the area. The police/security were taking precautions to keep people safe when during their conversations, the stage collapsed. When stages collaps, there is a large chance of injury including the stage crew and the crowd close to the stage.

In a situation where it is caused by the weather, I don't feel that it is their fault that the stage collapsed. I think that they should have seen the danger, postponed the concert, and lowered the stage rig from its high standing position.

Pro: Many people stepped up to help. There were people lifting pieces of stage to get people free from beneath.

Con: Many people were injured because of this incident.

Lighting hits two at KISS concert

Lighting hits two at KISS concert | Stage Rigging | Scoop.it
Fans were lucky to escape injury when glam rockers KISS literally brought down the house during their Brisbane show last night.

Jordan Fleagle's insight:

This is a great example of improper stage rigging. Stage rigging should be carefully completed. Lights over any people are a danger if lights are not properly hung. Thankfully at this concert only 2 people we hit by this falling light bar. There should have been a safety cable around the bar and the truss in case the clamp fails, as it did during this concert.

This is a good example of how important it is to build a lighting rig properly, and double checking equipment before the show to prevent any injuries to the band, crew, or even the fans.  Especially when shooting projectile pyrotechnics into the ceiling.

Kiss stage on fire in Adelaide.

There was a slight interruption to the Kiss set at Adelaide's post-car race concert for the Clipsal 500 event when the Kiss lighting rig caught fire. Front-m...
Jordan Fleagle's insight:

In this video, the lighting rig catches on fire during a Kiss concert. All lighting fixtures should be tested and inspected before each show so that fires like this don't break out from faulty lights.

Pro: They made the most of the time by singing and keeping the crowd excited to be there. They brought the rig down and extinguished the fire in a timely fashion.

Cons: The lighting rig caught on fire.

Stage collapse at Pontiac Silverdome injures several people, cancels weekend concert

Stage collapse at Pontiac Silverdome injures several people, cancels weekend concert | Stage Rigging | Scoop.it
Several workers were injured Saturday at the Pontiac Silverdome after part of the stage for an upcoming concert collapsed.
Jordan Fleagle's insight:

Stage rigging is very important. When a stage set collapses on people, it can cause serious injuries and death. The rigger should always know how much weight to put on a rig so that there is not a chance it would fall. Simple mistakes and cutting corners could cost you your job as a stage rigger, or your life.

Fire on stage rig

Fire on stage rig | Stage Rigging | Scoop.it
A Rihanna concert in Dallas was cut short Friday night after a small fire broke out above the stage.

Via Kevin M. Krupa
Jordan Fleagle's insight:

This is a video about how a fire breaks out on the lighting rig during a concert. When dealing with crowds of people, the stage managers and riggers have to be very careful and cautious of potential danger that could occur above the crowd or stage. Thankfully, the fire was put out before it got out of control, but it never should have ignited in the first place.

Pro: Nobody was hurt during this fire. It did not cause any collaps of the stage rig.

Con: The rig caught on fire inside a building full of thousands of people. This could have spread and turned in to something much worse.

Another example of how rigging stage and concert lighting improperly could result in a dangerous situation, and could potentially injure many people.  The sources stated the fire started because a lighting fixture caught the curtains and part of the stage on fire.  They had to cancel the concert.
