Showjumper Denis Lynch dropped from Irish Olympic squad after horse tested positive for hypersensitivity - Horse & Hound

Showjumper Denis Lynch dropped from Irish Olympic squad after horse tested positive for hypersensitivity - Horse & Hound | Show Jumping World | Scoop.it

Horse & Hound reports that. "Showjumper Denis Lynch will not represent Ireland at this summer’s Olympics after his horse failed a hypersensitivity test"

@chrisestafford writes: This is clearly an unfortunate situation all round for Ireland who failed to qualify a team for this year's Olympic Games and had named just two riders as individual entries - Denis and Billy Twomey. As Horse & Hound reports, this is the third time that Lynch's horses have failed tests within the last 12 months.

Equestrian Dalma Malhas may be first Saudi woman allowed to compete in Olympics

Equestrian Dalma Malhas may be first Saudi woman allowed to compete in Olympics | Show Jumping World | Scoop.it

> MORE INFORMATION AT FOX Sports

Saudi Arabia will allow women to compete in the Olympic Games for the first time in London.

Equestrian Dalma Malhas, 20, is likely to be the country's only female athlete to qualify for this summer's Games. Malhas, who was born in the US, won a bronze medal at the 2010 Singapore Youth Olympics without having been nominated by her country, following an invitation from the International Olympic Committee

The issue of women in sport remains extremely sensitive in the ultra-conservative Muslim state, where public sports events for women are banned.

Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Brunei are the only three countries never to have sent women athletes to the Olympics.

Cian O'Connor Calls for Ireland to Leave Top League Of The Nations Cup - Horse & Hound

Cian O'Connor Calls for Ireland to Leave Top League Of The Nations Cup - Horse & Hound | Show Jumping World | Scoop.it

Showjumper Cian O'Connor says that Ireland needs to take a break from the top league of the Nations Cup to improve the country’s horsepower..."

@chrisestafford writes: This is an interesting debate especially since the recent move to include Saudi Arabia and this season's exclusion of the USA. For George Morris' squad it enabled them to focus on fielding the Olympic team without the demands of a Nations Cup tour. For Ireland it would take the pressure off for a while to build their horsepower. It raises a number of questions though; do we expect our horses to fly around the world too much to chase top prize money because we can...does Ireland forfeit its best horses at the expense of team honors...or is it just not producing the top flight sport horses at the rate it once did?

FEI confirms Dalma Malhas will not compete at London Olympic Games

FEI confirms Dalma Malhas will not compete at London Olympic Games | Show Jumping World | Scoop.it

Dalma Rushi Malhas, the Saudi Arabian rider who won individual bronze at the inaugural Youth Olympic Games in 2010, will not be competing at London 2012, the Federation Equestre International (FEI), confirmed today.

The 12-year-old Swedish warmblood mare Caramell KS, which was bought from Swedish rider Svante Johansson at the end of 2011, was found to be suffering from a back problem, putting an end to Dalma’s hopes of qualifying for London 2012.

“The FEI is very proud to have been the international federation to field the first female athlete from Saudi Arabia at the Youth Olympic Games when Dalma won individual bronze in jumping, and we very much look forward to seeing her on the Olympic stage again.”
