Although college athletes have limitations as to how much they can make with a part-time job, I think it is enough to simply provide for them what their scholarship does not pay.

Sports programs at universities are clearly a source of revenue for universities, so I do see the players’ view. But aren’t most players already receiving free education and housing?

A topic that seems to be circling around on college campuses, is whether college athletes should be paid on top of their scholarship for their contribution and revenue they provide for their university.
Padon Allen's insight:

While the hours of practice and the time spent with your team vary, student athletes have busy lives requires them to manage their time differently than many other college students.
The amount of time student athletes put into training leaves them with no opportunity to get a job and make additional spending money or pay for necessities. By paying athletes some form of compensation, they can then afford the necessities in life or have opportunities to partake in other activities.

Besides, they already are paid. Those fortunate enough to receive full scholarships have their tuition, room and board, and books paid for.

There also is this little secret that many head coaches choose to ignore when they talk about how college athletes live in virtual poverty while they compete: Those athletes who qualify on a need basis receive a federal supplement every semester.

The age-old question of whether or not NCAA athletes deserve to get paid will be up for debate until a policy change is made.
Padon Allen's insight:

if athletes deserve to get paid, should they have contracts the way professional athletes do? “The amount the athletes get paid should be proportionate to their scholarships so that the better players get paid more and there is still a minimum wage for all student-athletes,” Ashford said.
