What Questions Did You Ask Today?

"The average five-year-old asks 65 questions per day, most of them starting with "why." The average 44-year-old manager only asks six questions per day; most of them starting with "when," "where," or "how much."

The number of questions we ask per day doesn't increase until retirement. Why retirement? Because that's when we start asking, "Where are my keys?" and "Why did I walk into this room?"

In this animated three-minute video, Chic Thompson the author of What a Great Idea!, will help you "jump start" your question asking ability."

Questions, questions and more questions. What are the right questions?

Mark E. Deschaine, PhD's curator insight, August 3, 2015 2:25 PM

Fabulous!

Jonas Salk:  "The answer to every problem pre-exists.  We need to ask the right Questions to reveal the answers."

Great tips...........Parents:  instead of asking "what did you learn today?", ask "what questions did you ask today?"

Desinging learning, we need to ask HOW last.  What and why first.  "What is the result we want to see, feel and hear."  Then:  Why do you want to achieve these results.  LAST:  How will we do it.

Skills Converged > Problem Solving Exercise: Look at the Problem from a Kid’s Point of View

Skills Converged > Problem Solving Exercise: Look at the Problem from a Kid’s Point of View | Serious Play | Scoop.it

A particularly useful problem solving technique is to see a given problem from the point of view of a 10 year old. This view point usually helps to simplify both problems and solutions and as a result creates clarity. It is also a form of devil’s advocate analysis; if you cannot describe your products or problems to a 10 year old, you may need to work harder to increase your understanding of the problem.

Storytelling to Problem Solve | pixelpush design

Storytelling to Problem Solve | pixelpush design | Serious Play | Scoop.it

Storytelling has long been a tool for user experience designers, guiding how we craft an experience. What I'm proposing is a bit different: The use of face-to-face conversation to change how we empathize with our audience.

We don’t typically analyze how we tell stories, it just sort of happens the more we tell them. But this is a powerful tool. Once we’re made aware of it, our innate storytelling gives us the ability to create more engaging digital experiences.

Being aware of how we verbally communicate allows us to take advantage of our natural storytelling skills.  Pay attention to:

- audience

- context

- story time

- practice makes perfect

How Role Playing Helps With Problem Solving

If my many years in marketing taught me anything, it was the importance of understanding your customers and prospects. Before any creative project was started, we would develop a "Creative Blueprint" that clearly stated our objectives and goals. The Main Selling Proposition was considered to be the most important part of the blueprint. But what I found to be most useful - not just then, but now in my own leadership work - is getting a grip on Current Attitudes and Desired Attitudes. Here's how you can apply this strategy to find solutions to many of the issues you face...
