Welcome to US History & Government

Hello,

I am excited about our US History & Government class this year, we have great group of students and I'm really looking forward to have fun with American history this year.  I've developed this monthly newsletter to allow you, the parents, to have access to information about your child's History education.  I feel this is a helpful tool to keep you updated about what is going on in our classroom.

A Little Bit About the Teacher

Some of you with older children know me, but this is the first time many of you will have students in my class.  So here is a little about my background and teaching experience.

I earned a B.A. in Philosophy and Communication Arts from the College of Notre Dame of Maryland in 2003.  I returned to college a few year later to earn a teaching certification from Towson University.  The focus of my certification was Middle School Education with emphasis in Science and Social Studies and after completing the program I taught 7th grade Earth & Space Science for 4 years at the Williams Preparatory School before accepting my current position here at The Valley Academy in 2018.

I have enjoyed the last 3 years here at Valley and look forward to many more.

September - Class Trip Reminder

On Wednesday, September 26th, the entire 6th grade class will travel to Mt. Adams, in Bel Air, MD for an over-night trip.  The bus will leave campus at 9:00 AM on Wednesday and return by 2:30 on Thursday in time for usual dismissal.

This trip gives students a little insight into the lives of colonists by emerging themselves in the colonial culture.  Activites will include wood gathering/cutting, fire building, meal preparation, colonial crafts (cornhust doll making, needlepoint), and colonial storytelling and songs.

Detailed information the trip, including a list of what to pack and the required permission slip, was sent home with your student the first week of school.  If anyone needs another information packet please contact me, kathrin.cain@teachers.school.edu
