Leveraging Social Media for Local SEO

Leveraging Social Media for Local SEO | SEO and Social Media Marketing | Scoop.it

The challenge in an integrated search and social strategy is leveraging popular social platforms to increase website positioning on search engines.

Using social media to promote local brand awareness is critical when working to be the leader among competitors in the digital landscape.

You want to make sure your brand (or the brand you manage as an SEO) is regularly utilizing these channels — before they become completely obsolete.

If you’ve been doing online marketing for any significant amount of time now, you’re probably already using the two major social media platforms, Twitter and Facebook. If you’re B2B, you might be using LinkedIn, too. And if you’re in the tech world, perhaps Google+ is a part of your local marketing strategy. However, there are tons of other social platforms out there that local businesses can use to boost their local SEO.

So how can you use these to broaden your local presence? Columnist Lydia Jorden is going to discuss micro-strategies for leveraging two popular social media platforms that aren’t as commonly used for local search: Snapchat and Quora: http://searchengineland.com/leveraging-social-media-tools-local-seo-244810

The Old Days VS New Days of Google [Infographic] | SEO and Social Media Marketing | Scoop.it

Today, what we say and ask Google starts to matter less and less.

Google tries to understand us before we even ask. It’ll morph or results based on our location, device we’re using, previous behavior, and more. It’s truly an engine of matching intent vs. matching keywords these days.

And, of course, that’s changed how SEOs work.

SEO is the new big thing in social media marketing. Now that the web is so saturated with so many different individuals, groups, companies, and more, SEOs are one way to get your business noticed on the internet. So, what roles does content have in today’s search and social environment? According to this article, in the past, many SEO experts simply tried to hack the system to get their website as a result no matter what is being searched for, optimally. Nowadays, algorithms have become smarter, more specific, and have many methods in determining what criteria allows a website to be a result for a search engine query. Now, Google wants to rank websites based on the quality and relevance of specific keywords, giving content a stronger role now than ever. Although social media users love images and visual appeal, this new SEO algorithm puts a new pressure on the content curators of websites and businesses.

Sanjana Singh's curator insight, March 21, 2016 7:57 AM
While I don't completely agree that content is the new SEO, it's  unquestionable that Google doesn't like manipulating its search results. As far as website rankings are concerned, these should be based on relevance, popularity,  and authenticity of the brand and content therein.

Forget about website rankings for a minute and let's talk about the ranking of content. We know that Google uses various signals to rank some content or blog and these signals include:

A. The age of the blog
B. Traffic on the blog
C. Popularity of the blog
D. Quality of content

These things can further be subdivided into:

A. Variety and useful of content on the blog
B. Social media amplification, shares, outreach, viral-ity
C. Comments, hits, views and likes
D. Trust factor
E. Use experience on the site ( time to download, easy navigability)
F. Link profile and sites linking back to it (as an indicator of usefulness, trust, and popularity)

and many others.

So, we all agree that content is reigning. More so, because apps have also entered into the game of search and visitors entering through apps don't use search engines. So, it's another layer to search, as pointed out by Ilia Markov.

But, more businesses are failing when it comes to content marketing.

Probably, they are not able to do it right. Maybe because, it's not technical and has no written code of conduct.

But, we can still perform better at content marketing, if we get to know what leads us to failure.

My article is an effort to discover what might be going wrong with your content marketing strategy and implementation.

Please click here and yes many thanks to Ilia Markov for enlightening us.
