Self assessing the 8 Elements of Digital Literacy

Self assessing the 8 Elements of Digital Literacy | SENSES project: Assembling your digital toolkit | Scoop.it

Doug Belshaw’s framework for understanding digital literacies

outlined in his book The Essential Elements of Digital Literacies and in his Ed.D thesis). We have mapped the discipline-specific statements of graduate skills, attributes and practices to the 8 elements outlined in Doug’s book. We are now delving deeper into what these elements might mean for students at the University of Bath.

One output from this work will be the creation of a diagnostic skills survey where students are able to self-assess their digital literacies and be given guidance as to the options and pathways available to them to develop their skills, attributes and practices.

How Students Used Social Media To Help Others In Need

How Students Used Social Media To Help Others In Need | SENSES project: Assembling your digital toolkit | Scoop.it

"Students care. When they care and mobilize, the world changes around them. Students at the William M. Davies Career & Technical High School in Lincoln, Rhode Island discovered that Hurricane Sandy had severely affected family members of one teacher, whose sister in law was from Brick, New Jersey. They jumped right in, using social media to mobilize and create awareness of the extent of the damage and to lend a helping hand."
