Broadcast Center - St. Louis Missouri

Broadcast Center - St. Louis Missouri | Senior Seminar Scoop.it | Scoop.it
Broadcast Center in St. Louis, Missouri is designed to guide graduates from the classroom to entry-level careers in the broadcast journalism industry.
Jordan Avery Kruger's insight:

I stumbled across this while reading a biography on Mariners announcer Aaron Goldsmith. Apparently, after he received a BA in history, he attended the Broadcast Center in St. Louis, and graduated in 10 months. I found it interesting, because I was not aware of any school that focused strictly on broadcasting. They even have a program for aspiring play-by-play announcers, which is the job I'm after.

How to Become a Sportscaster

How to Become a Sportscaster
Jordan Avery Kruger's insight:

This website with it's numerous articles written by different people, all experienced in the bussiness, was helpful in getting me motivated and encouraged about what I want to do for a living. One article in specific talked about play-by-play announcing, which is really what my passion is. Another talked about patience in working your way up in the bussiness. Long story short, this was a helpful website.

Broadcasters

Broadcasters | Senior Seminar Scoop.it | Scoop.it
Jordan Avery Kruger's insight:

This is the broadcasting team that I grew up listening to on the radio and TV. I was mainly inspired by Rick Rizzs and Dave Niehaus, whose amazing radio personalities and abilities to paint a vivid picture of the action on the field never failed to make even the dullest of games exciting. They have shaped the style that I use when I announce baseball games, and have been very inspired by them.

Jordan Avery Kruger's insight:

KRKO Radio is Everett's local radio station. Their office is located on Colby Avenue downtown. I plan to at some point try to meet with the sports director, Tom Lafferty and ask him some questions about the job in general, how to get there, what education I should get, etc. Hopefully he will be able to be a big help to me.

Jordan Avery Kruger's insight:

This website gave me info on the education needed to become a sportscaster. It was also helpful, because it gave me the names of some of the top broadcasting schools. In addition, it re-cemented the idea that in addition to an education, strong knowledge of the sport you are covering and experience are very important in this field.

How to Be a Sportscaster | Broadcasting Careers | Senior Seminar Scoop.it | Scoop.it
Discover how to become a Sports Broadcaster when working one-on-one with a local sportscaster near you. Sports broadcasting careers begin here.
Jordan Avery Kruger's insight:

This website came as a suprise and huge relief to me. Basically, this program offers an education in sportscasting to people through an apprenticeship with a sportscaster who works at your local radio station. The Sportscasters Mentoring Group believes strongly that in this bussiness, it's not what you know, but who you know. They offer what sounds like a good education in sportscasting, and work hard to fit your education into your work schedule. The founder of this group rates this education as a very good way to get your foot in the door to this bussiness.
