Top 5 ways to pay for college if FAFSA won't - The Broadside | Senior Project | Scoop.it
Strapped for cash? Found that your Free Application for Financial Student Aid check is not stretching as far as you hoped? Remain calm and keep a cool head before raiding the couch cushions for extra pocket change. These five tips could help ease the pressure on your bank account. 1. Work study The Federal Work Study program gives students employment opportunities on the COCC campus. Students doing work study can work up to 8-10 hours a week. Money from work study can be used for day to day living expenses or educational costs. To be eligible, students have to have been awarded Federal Work-Study as part of their financial aid from COCC. 2. Family aid You might not have a rich grandmother happy to shoot money at you, but chances are there’s at least one sympathetic relative who would respond to a letter. Instead of asking for vague help, ask them to pay for a specific class or lunch for a month. 3. Work around Babysitting. Housesitting. Tutoring. Music lessons. Fastweb: College Scholarship matcher

Fastweb: College Scholarship matcher | Senior Project | Scoop.it

"Search for scholarships with our free scholarship matching service, get student financial aid and find money to pay for college at Fastweb." This website matched me with tons of scholarships after filling out a bio about me and my achievements in highschool. THis website specifically matched me up to the following scholarships I actually applied for: Alert Scholarship, Prowler No Essay Scholarship, and the Burger King Scholarship. This website helped alot.

mitch fajardo's insight:

Fastweb is easy to use which made finding 2 scholarships easy. That said, others should use it because the popular scholarships are definitely worth filling out. Websites like this, in my opinion, are needed because the more convenient it is for students to fill out the scholarships, the more they will fill out, therefore, adding positivity towards their education and future.

My thoughts: With a name like "Fastweb" I automatically assumed this website was a scam. It turns out it's not! The only downside to Fastweb is that you have to make an account. By giving Fastweb information that follows internet safety guidlines, it will match you up with scholarships that you already qualify for. Fastweb is a definite time saver.

This I scooped from a past senior student and I found this scholarsip website easy and accessible. I found several scholarships on here that I've heard of or have already done.

Before filling out the FAFSA, get a PIN, understand dependency status and the parent’s role, gather needed documents, and learn how to fill out the form.
mitch fajardo's insight:

This instructive piece really makes it easy for someone to complete something as serious as the FAFSA. The way it walks you through completing the FAFSA, in detail, makes finishing it just that much easier. My thoughts are, the easier and more simple people can make something the better because things such as the FAFSA may be confusing for some student. We should not be held back because we don't understand or because something is confusing.
