Girls under 16 have highest chlamydia rate of those tested

Girls under 16 have highest chlamydia rate of those tested | semester 2 | Scoop.it
Young girls aged 12 to 15 are more likely to test positive for chlamydia than older teenagers and even women in their 20s, according to new research, prompting fears the girls are not practising safe sex.
Katherine Read's insight:

This is very interesting and quite shocking. it is hard to realise when ths article says that 1 in 10 girls from age 12-15 have chlamydia, thats 2 girls in my class.. It makes sense that yonger girls are scared to get checked at such a young age.. they would be embarressed and scared. Its hard for young girls to get the courage to go to a doctor for something so personal. i would say for some girls the reason they got chlamydia is that they are insucure and need some reasurence and acceptance. they could be  pressured and intimidated  by the highschool society.

Waxing increases risk of STI

Waxing increases risk of STI | semester 2 | Scoop.it
To hair or to bare... down there? Seems there's a new factor to take into consideration when deciding on this vexing (or should that be waxing) question.
Katherine Read's insight:

This is a very intersting point. I believe that it could be potencially true and seeing as waxing is meant to be painfull I would easily say that people will be willing to let it go.

How Angelina Jolie was duped by cancer doctors into self mutilation for breast cancer she never had

How Angelina Jolie was duped by cancer doctors into self mutilation for breast cancer she never had
Katherine Read's insight:

This is an extraordinary article. I can't believe that doctors are now lying to women and men to get thir organs sergically removed. especially to women of such prominence to the world. Angelina Jolie was told she had a 85% chance of gettinf breast cancer from a well known respected doctor. It is sad to take advantage of someones money, i would say that the doctor that told Miss jolie that she should get her breasts removed was to just be renowned as having done Angelina Jolie.

UNFPA - World Population Day 2013 Focuses on Adolescent Pregnancy

Katherine Read's insight:

This article is amazing! it is so factual i am upset with the factors of our worlds that 500 million girls under the age of 19 are falling pregnant and losing the potencial for a better future because they haven't got the access to contreption or dont have any idea about safe sex. this is a very big eye opener to me. more funding should go into safe sex for women .

Living With Cancer: Tumbling Blocks

Living With Cancer: Tumbling Blocks | semester 2 | Scoop.it
Three of my former graduate students have received a cancer diagnosis. Why are these people so young, and why are there so many? This cannot, should not, be happening to my students.
Katherine Read's insight:

This is a beautifully written article about cancer and how common it is through every age. Society likes to say that cancer is more commen through the later years of our lives but beacsue our world is so big we underestimate how cancer can affect us. This article makes me much more aware that i can be affected by any sort of cancer through a young age. People and scientists say that if you eat all the right healthy foods you are better off but in any case many people get cancer and lead helathy happy lives..

Eating more nuts and fiber in adolescence helps young women avoid breast cancer later in life
Katherine Read's insight:

EAT YOUR NUTS GIRLS

Eating more nut in your adolescence will reduce the rick of breast cnce for women later in life.

Reading all these articels on what foods reduce cancer i have noticed that it never once has said macdonalds, KFC, Kit Kats or any unhealthy foods. which is a sign and a reality cheak that eating un healthy food does not benrfit your life in any way.
