Simtipp: WeeVille (LICK Sim Designs)  Oyster Bay - Second life

Simtipp: WeeVille (LICK Sim Designs)  Oyster Bay - Second life | Second Life Destinations | Scoop.it

Byrd Island - Oyster Bay - Second life

Byrd Island - Oyster Bay - Second life | Second Life Destinations | Scoop.it

When I arrived at Byrd Island it was foggy (using the windlight settings of the sim) and the atmosphere accordingly mystic. A swarm of seagulls welcomed me as well as some pelicans. As expected there’re many birds and even when you don’t see them by accident their sound is everywhere. I do like in particular the big wooden landing pier as it reminds me of my home RL. There’s one big difference to reality – in Second Life the pier isn’t covered with bird droppings. At the pier, where you arrive is a little beach and the elevator to the high plateau of Byrd Island. You can use a rope ladder instead for getting there. I roamed around the Island and peeked into the buildings. The sim is beautiful, offers many views and places to sit and cuddle and is for sure worth a visit just to explore or to get some ideas for own sim designs.

Byrd Island - Oyster Bay - Second life - Echt Virtuell

Byrd Island - Oyster Bay - Second life - Echt Virtuell | Second Life Destinations | Scoop.it

These 11 shots are from the “Byrd Island” build created by LICK Sim Design located on the Oyster Bay sim. Sera Bellic has created another incredible build and, as usual, it does not disappoint. The story goes, “Welcome to Byrd Island. Take a step back in time to explore this once inhabited island. The Light house keeper and his family abruptly left the island never to return. Could it have been the birds, or something else? Byrd Island is now open for tours. Check the schedule for the next ferry from the mainland.” Outstanding!!!

Byrd Island at Oyster Bay - Great Second Life Destinations

Byrd Island at Oyster Bay - Great Second Life Destinations | Second Life Destinations | Scoop.it
Lick Sim Designs has another excellent build which you need to see before Second Life's summer season ends. Byrd Island at Oyster Bay is a fog enshrouded island that has, quite literally, been taken over by flocks of birds. I particularly liked the pigeons which invaded the well appointed living room in the large farm house in the center of the island.

Perusing my way through the Destination Guide, I came upon Byrd Island. It sounded intriguing so I went to see for myself.

The land description reads, “Take a step back in time to explore this once inhabited island. The Light house keeper and his family left the island never to return. Could it have been the birds, or something else? Byrd Island is now open for tours.” Indeed, the island was empty of inhabitants, other than the multitude of birds.

Byrd Island in Second Life

Byrd Island in Second Life | Second Life Destinations | Scoop.it

The homestead region of Oyster Bay is a regular stopping-off point on my rounds of Second Life. This is because Sera Bellic, the region holder, uses it to demonstrate her region design skills, changing the layout several times a year, thus periodically offering all of us something to new visit. This is currently the case with the regions latest iteration as Byrd Island, which Caitlyn and hopped over to explore as the start of our weekend. Visitors arrive at the island’s ferry pier, located on the island’s north-west side, where birds circle overhead, the first indications of how – spelling allowing – the island may have come by its name. Herons patrol the sandy tongue of land on which it sits, the only low-lying point of the entire island, which otherwise stands as a 30-metre high tower of rock rising from the surrounding mist-laden sea.

Byrd Island - Oyster Bay - Second life

Byrd Island - Oyster Bay - Second life | Second Life Destinations | Scoop.it

The moment you are standing alone on the dock, and look up, the mystery begins.Byrd Island is shrouded in mist and you hear nothing but the cry of gulls and a relentless, pounding surf. At the top, the searching beam of the lighthouse strains to penetrate the thick fog and warn sailors off the rocks below.

Sera Bellick – owner and mastermind of Lick Sims – treats us to the mystery of “what has happened to the residents of Byrd Island? “
