Facebook has launched a sleek, photo-friendly redesign of its News Feed, hoping to appeal to advertisers and make the social networking site more user-friendly.

The new design features multiple feeds based on categories, larger images and — most vital for advertisers — consistency across its web and mobile platforms.

Chief executive Mark Zuckerberg announced the changes in a highly anticipated press conference Thursday, where he said the company’s goal is to help people share stories.

“Our mission at Facebook is to make the world more open and connected,” he said. “What we’re trying to do is give everyone in the world the best personalized newspaper that we can.”
