To demonstrate that CO2 is heavier than air.

To demonstrate that CO2 is heavier than air. | Science | Scoop.it

This is a low cost innovative science learning aid.The children enjoy doing this experiment. With the help this they can easily demonstrate the property of carbon di oxide.

Two candels, one longer and one shorter, are fixed to inside botom of a small plastic dish 2 inches apart.A Small amount of lemon salt and a table spoon of baking soda(SODIUM BI CARBONATE) are placed in the container. Now the candles are lighted. Water is added in the container with the help of a dropper.Soon the reaction starts and CO2 is released. The flame of the shorter candle is put off.But the longer candle keeps glowing. CO2 prevails at the bottom of the dish displacing the air at the boyyomas it is heavir. So CO2 does not rise to the level of the longer candle So it keeps glowing till it is exhausted.

ABC of Chemistry (kit of low cost improvised experiments)

ABC of Chemistry (kit of low cost improvised experiments) | Science | Scoop.it

This is a low cost, improvised kit to demonstrate nearly 30 experiments in cemisstry to make learning chemistry interesting and easy for students in and outside the classroom. I designed it using mostly of household chemicals and locally available materials to give it a native touch.Acids&Bases, Boyle"s Law, Candle chemistry and so on and many more simple experiments including Fun Corner appeal to the students to create liking towards science. This proved very useful in rural and urban schools as well.
