The main reason counseling does not work is the client just does not show up.  Dr. Komrad has made this his life work and published a book with ideas about how to help the client overcome this hurdle. -Lon

This is very significant because of the wide spread irrational fear of many people that the wilderness is dangerous.  It indicates instead that the danger is in not intervening when an adolescent is making poor and risky decisions.  -Lon
