How California’s Online Education Pilot Will End College As We Know It | TechCrunch | School CIO | Scoop.it
Today, the largest university system in the world, the California State University system, announced a pilot for $150 lower-division online courses at one its campuses--a move that spells the end of higher education as we know it.
Jason Epstein's insight:

This has the potential to change education as we know it.  However, I am not sure I agree with the polarity that the author poses as the two ways it could go.  Either way, I do think education, right down to its core, is in need of a shake up!

The mission of AISAP is to support and advance those involved in admission and enrollment management at schools.
Jason Epstein's insight:

Social Media, in my opinion, is fast becoming one of the "soft skills" that students need to succeed in life.  While many of us, student and adult alike use Social Media for personal use, the influx of Social Media in the work place is one we cannot ignore and one that our students will need a skill set to master moving forward.

4 reasons you want multiple twitter accounts at your school. | School CIO | Scoop.it

I love Twitter.... yet the discussion about twitter in schools continues.

Tucker Kimball writes on www.edsocialmedia.com:

At the heart of the discussion was the question, “should schools have multiple twitter accounts?”

From my perspective, I think the answer is yes for four reasons in no particular order.

Tap the Social Media Stream for Competitors' Secrets

Tap the Social Media Stream for Competitors' Secrets | School CIO | Scoop.it
Savvy companies are monitoring Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn to pick up valuable competitive intelligence about their rivals' product specs, pricing, finances and dissatisfied customers.

I ask, should schools use this same type of strategy to see what schools are doing well and in the same vein as companies use this information to improve what they are doing?  I say YES!

The Beginner’s Quick Guide To E-Books In Education | Edudemic

The Beginner’s Quick Guide To E-Books In Education | Edudemic | School CIO | Scoop.it

E-books were once thought of as a nice way to read books for entertainment purposes, and not much else. In recent years, they have exploded onto the education scene, as many schools are using them almost exclusively. It’s interesting to consider how e-books have changed the way that college students study.

teachtalk: Identity Crisis at ISTE 2012 | School CIO | Scoop.it

Last week I was at ISTE 2012 in San Diego and had an identity crisis. I registered on Friday, received my name badge and wore it the whole time, so I knew who I was. In fact, I did not know that I was having an identity issue until midway through the conference. By the end of the day Monday I was truly in a quandary.

SchoolCIO Blogs - DAILY INSIGHT: A BYOT glossary

SchoolCIO Blogs - DAILY INSIGHT: A BYOT glossary | School CIO | Scoop.it

Jen LaMaster, CIO Advisor states, "The feedback loop is hinting that @jdferries and I are speaking a little too "techie" these days for the local school community. And that feedback is probably correct, as we hang out with tech-types and each other so much we speak in what sounds like code (and sometimes is code—but I digress)... So I am starting this BYOT Glossary for the school community."

2011 Reflection and Refocusing for 2012 | Change Agency

2011 Reflection and Refocusing for 2012 | Change Agency | School CIO | Scoop.it

Author Stephanie Sandifer writes, "In my book, Wikis for School Leaders, (which is actually targeted at ALL educators — teachers are also school leaders), I focus on the use of wikis in professional activities rather than in the classroom for a very specific reason — we must first fully understand how these tools can be used for “work” before we can begin to incorporate them into the classroom in authentic, meaningful, and engaging ways. A lack of this kind of understanding results in what I see all-too-often — tech used in teacher-centered instruction or the creation of “digital posters”."

The Page is Dead! Long Live Curriculum : 2¢ Worth | School CIO | Scoop.it

After keynoting the recent SchoolCIO Leadership Summit and then facilitating their “Digital Content” discussion cadre, I was asked to compile some of the highlights of our case studies and conversations into a 100 word scenario for the SchoolCIO Magazine’s followup articles. The word limit made the task feel like a job. But it is in that sort of efficient deconstruction, reflection, and reconstruction process that we gain new insights — that I learn.
