Kasandra Numair's insight:

Knowing how competitive colleges and financial aid programs are it's encouraging to read about all the different types of financial aid available. Grants, loans and scholarships are offered out through federal government, state governemnt, a college itself, a parents employer etc. This makes me hopeful that I can be helped financially without having to be extremely poor and talented with good grades. My dad works for the state and is apart of their union. After reading this article I asked him about it and learned that he recieves newsletters from the union often informing him about scholarship opportunities for me. I'm excited to find another revenue in paying for college to take advantage of. It is however, dissapointing that the government expects parents to pay for some portion of college because that is more money that I am going to have to pay. Very informational article.

Kasandra Numair's insight:

Jade's story has a few similarities to mine-including applying to the same scholarship! I didn'tknow how many students were picked for the scholarship, it gives me more excitment and hope for January to find out the winners of this years Horatio Alger Scholarship. It's very cool that Jade was not just interested in the money to help her get to college just to get a good job, but she actually enjoyed the process of attending every conference and collecting advice for both college and life. A family income of less than 18,000 a year and a G.P.A of 3.8 of higher are both extremely difficult tasks and it's impressive that Jade lived in poverty and still earned such impressive grades.

How To Avoid The Most Common College Scholarship Mistakes

A compilation of scholarships, fellowships, grants awards and other opportunities for those seeking continuing education and other opportunities for career advantancement
Kasandra Numair's insight:

This easy to read list of common mistakes made during the scholarship application process is very helpful. Some of the tips seem obvious and unecessary but that is why they are such common mistakes. One tip said to read every question carefully and make sure you give only the desired information, without getting off track. This applies to everyone; on the last scholarship I applied for I completed the quick essay that was asked of me. It wasn't until after I was done that I realized my whole essay had nothing to do with what they had asked of me. I went back and re-wrote it but I wish I would have read the question carefully in the first place and saved myself the time. Also as someone who is in no way internet savvy, learning about scam scholarship websites and how to avoid them was extrememly helpful.
