Is Gaming A Professional Sport? The Numbers Don't Lie | Scholarships And College Applications | Scoop.it
DotA, League of Legends and StarCraft II are not athletic endeavors typically discussed alongside hockey, baseball and soccer in conversations about professional sports; however, growing interest in Electronic Sports (a.k.a., eSports or...
Hannah Y's insight:

My thoughts:

This is a great example to see how wide the range is for scholarships. Now they are thinking of giving away gaming scholarships similar to those of athletics. In my opinion this is a great because at my school I have seen many athletes get scholarship for their talent, but have average grades. Gamers should be acknowledged the same way. Being really good at gaming is also a talent and the popularity of gaming has increased in recent years. Many people even at my school game all day because it is their hobby and they enjoy it. This is also good because schools get to pay part of your education for a skill you have. If there are scholarships for video games, then there has to be a scholarship that fits you. Scholarships require time and patience but it will be worth it at the end. Right now finding scholarships are getting easier for me because I use the same websites. I just need to keep searching for scholarships that best suit me. So apply, apply, apply, senior year is not just over yet!

College Admissions: Early Apps Up for Class of 2019 - GoLocal Worcester | Scholarships And College Applications | Scoop.it
Over the last 30 days, students from across the country and around the world sent in college applications under binding Early Decision and non-binding Early Action programs.
Hannah Y's insight:

My thoughts:

According to this article more students are taking advantage of applying to colleges’ early (early action/decision). In my opinion, this is a great way because student's stress level decreases. As one of these students who already turned in all my applications, it makes my life way less stressful. Now, I do not have to worry because all the hard work is done. I just need to wait for my acceptance letters. I have more time to focus on my studies, to spend time with my family, and to sleep more, especially having to wake up at 5:30am every day. Another positive aspect of turning in your applications early is that it gives an individual more time to find scholarships. Also I think that turning in your application early to schools says something about you. It says you are eager to attend their school and are on top of things. With important deadlines coming, it is important you finish early because you do not want to stress out and procrastinate last minute.

10 Things You Need to Know If Your Kid's Applying to College - ABC News | Scholarships And College Applications | Scoop.it
It’s college application season, the time of year when parents of high school seniors have to quickly learn about things like the Common Application, FAFSA, SATs and student loans.
Hannah Y's insight:

My thoughts:

Financial aid is the most important thing for a student who decides to go to college. They have to plan out on how they are going to get the money and how they will repay their debt. In my opinion students should talk to their parents and see what they can do. They should look into scholarship programs and see if their parents are able to pay for at least some of the amount. Loans are dangerous because you have to pay it back and that can take a while when you get out of college. That is why scholarships are important! It may be a pain filling out forms and writing supplement essays, but at the end it is worth it, especially if you already turned in all you applications in early. Scholarships are a great way because it is free money! Even if you do not think you may get the scholarship, just apply because you never know. Also, there are a variety of scholarship offers out there. Right now, I am done with applications and searching for scholarships. So far, I have found many that I am qualified for and that there are many resources for scholarships if you just research. Also, the ten things listed in this article can help save students tons of money. Students just need to be motivated and passionate about college and their future.
