Ford SYNC with MyFord Touch will make its European debut in the new Ford Focus Electric when it comes to Europe in 2013, the company today announced at the IFA consumer electronics convention in Berlin.

The Microsoft-powered system delivers significantly enhanced voice-activation functionality, mobile WiFi connectivity and an eight-inch colour touchscreen.

“This is an exciting evolution of in-car connectivity, following the European debut of SYNC in the all-new B-MAX this year,” said Barb Samardzich, vice president of Product Development, Ford of Europe. “SYNC with MyFord Touch and Focus Electric both deliver cutting-edge technologies developed to optimise the ownership experience for Ford customers – they are a perfect combination.”

Brazil: NAVTEQ announces real-time traffic information

Brazil: NAVTEQ announces real-time traffic information | SBD Connected Car News | Scoop.it

Nokia has announced its Location & Commerce business has launched NAVTEQ Traffic Incidents, the first solution in Brazil to monitor traffic incidents in real time. In a country with over 60 million registered vehicles, causing over 1 million accidents and 45,000 traffic related deaths per year, the availability of accurate, robust traffic data is of increasing importance to consumers.

Drivers throughout Brazil are already well aware that traffic is a major problem. A study by the company, titled “Traffic in Brazil”, reinforced this by showing that over the past five years, Brazilians now spend on average 40 more minutes per day in traffic jams. One major contributing factor to the increase in time spent in traffic jams is the amount of cars that are on the road. Brazil has seen explosive growth in vehicle sales, having recently surpassed Germany as the 4th largest automotive market in the world with 3.5 million vehicles sold in 2011.

With Traffic Incidents, consumers can now access more complete real-time information on traffic flow, enabling them to find alternative routes to avoid traffic. Drivers in Brazil can know the reason traffic is slow or at a standstill, making them more informed, and helping cut down on frustration caused by traffic delays.

NAVTEQ Traffic Incidents is already available in three major metropolitan regions of Brazil – Belo Horizonte (MG), Rio de Janeiro (RJ) and São Paulo (SP). The service can be found on PNDs such as Airis EasyWay P430, P500, D430 and D500; Garmin Nüvi models 1300LT, 1410LT, 3460LT, 2415LT and 2565LT; Magellan models RM 2245 YT, RM 5240 YT, RM 5240 LT, RM 9255 YT and RM 9255 LT; as well as on the Honda Civic EXS 2012, the first automobile in Brazil to offer traffic originally installed by Honda. NAVTEQ Traffic Flow users will automatically receive upgrades with NAVTEQ Traffic Incidents.

Additionally, Nokia also announced that NAVTEQ Traffic has expanded its offering to drivers in Brasilia (DF) making the total number of metropolitan areas covered to be 13 and growing.
