Alzheimer’s is Type 3 Diabetes?

Alzheimer’s is Type 3 Diabetes? | Say no to dementia! | Scoop.it

Eddy Davelaar's curator insight, July 10, 2013 6:09 AM

The actual publication can be found here:

http://iospress.metapress.com/content/a8551513j4323138/?p=efc2bafac56544dabd9fa1403d9600db&pi=0

Basically, the authors review the literature and argue that there exist a self-reinforcing feedback loop that accelerates neurodegeneration. One component of this feedback loop is insulin resistance in the brain. Hence the question whether Alzheimer's is Type 3 Diabetes. Now this should be considered more carefully with the view of addressing familial Alzheimer's or early-onset AD and Alzheimer's like conditions, such as that found people with Down Syndrome. Therefore the better question is "What types of Alzheimer's can be considered a form of Type 3 Diabetes?", but that does not make headlines.

Ramesh Raghuveer Baliga's curator insight, April 15, 2013 10:53 AM

I was in one of those dark moods ( I am infamous for) and, sitting in a hotel (in Ghatkopar, which I visted last on 11th Feb.,2013; "Vada-Sambar" (No please and in grumpy tone) and, deposited the key-bunch and khudra dabbi on the table; "Sambar Daalkey yaa..; I gave him a frosty look (that could have melted iceberg but,the waitor produced smile resembling smirk, I rattled; Haan; Aapka, strong filter coffee bhi? Relaxing wee bit but, I sulking managed a growl : Haan; The Waitor vanished; I was busy devouring more sambar than Vada and, asked one additional helping of Sambar; Jaldi; And, then there was a mild tap on my shoulder and unknown voice, Aapka chaavi mil gaya, kyaa? I craned my neck, giving the tapper dirty look and, moved my eyes to the table and, went back to .....Sambar; Again, the tap and....Aapka jo Chavi kho gayaa tha aur aap do,theen baar aaye the poochney, Wo hum ko mil gaya...saaf karneywaley ney galthi sey....; Grumpy ness gone (vada sambar has sublime effect on me and, this ggod news (more than chavi, the leather holder was given to me my daughter,Renuka), I produced a smile and blabber that could have floored greatest stand-in comedian :) After two months... the tip to the waitor was heavier than Rs.2...promoted to Rs.5 and, a free smile :) What a key bunch and what a recall failure!
