Presidential Debate: Health Care Excerpts from Both Candidates

Presidential Debate: Health Care Excerpts from Both Candidates | Savannah's Political Opinion | Scoop.it
Even when the questions aren't about health care, many of the responses are. Here's what President Barack Obama and his Republican opponent, former Mass. Gov. Mitt Romney had to say Tuesday night about contraception, Medicare and the health law.

Mitt Romney (R) - 2012 Presidential Election - ProCon.org

Mitt Romney (R) - 2012 Presidential Election - ProCon.org | Savannah's Political Opinion | Scoop.it

A big argument on the subject of education is "Should the federal government increase direct financial aid (loans/grants/debt relief) for college students?" Mitt Romney says the federal government shouldn't be relied on for these things. At one point he called our government's involvement in paying for education a handout... Obama is an advocate for financial aid/ loans/grant etc. because he has been there and understands the importance and incentive given by such programs. I agree with Obama on terms of education; I believe he has my needs as far as education in mind.

Romney endorses Obama's national security policies - CNN.com

Romney endorses Obama's national security policies - CNN.com | Savannah's Political Opinion | Scoop.it
Romney essentially backed all of Obama's security policies. He says there was little difference in the positions of the two candidates on Syria, Iran. Romney dropped any effort to question withdrawal of combat troops from Afghanistan in 2014. Romney's talk of spending more on the military was unsupported by his strategy. I am undecided in this aspect because both parties have the same opinion.

Barack Obama (D) - 2012 Presidential Election - ProCon.org

Barack Obama (D) - 2012 Presidential Election - ProCon.org | Savannah's Political Opinion | Scoop.it

Taxes are a big issue in this debate. Romney says he does not believe in cutting taxes- it is not moral. Well sorry to break it to you but we need taxes. That is a main system our government depends on to give back to the people! It is not mathematically possible to cut as many taxes as Mitt wants and still be able to make up for it with his other ideas. I agree with Obama's tax plan. This government does well when the middle class does well. Yes taxes suck, but the are very necessary. Obama talks about the American Jobs Act and says, "Pass this jobs bill -- pass this jobs bill, and starting tomorrow, small businesses will get a tax cut if they hire new workers or if they raise workers' wages. Pass this jobs bill, and all small business owners will also see their payroll taxes cut in half next year. If you have 50 employees -- if you have 50 employees making an average salary, that's an $80,000 tax cut. And all businesses will be able to continue writing off the investments they make in 2012." Thanks to loopholes a quarter of all millionaires now pay lower tax rates than millions of middle-class families.

Gay Marriage Rights

Gay Marriage Rights | Savannah's Political Opinion | Scoop.it

Mitt Romney does not believe gay marriage should be legal and he says, “I believe we should have a federal amendment in the constitution that defines marriage as a relationship between a man and woman, because I believe the ideal place to raise a child is in a home with a mom and a dad.” For this reason I agree with Obama who supports gay marriage rights. You can't tell someone they do not deserve the happiness that comes along with marriage because they are in love with the same gender. The United States of America was built upon a foundation of people who want freedom and the ability to express themselves.

Second Presidential Debate 2012: Obama and Romney on Energy

I completely agree with Obama on the subject of energy. The most important thing we can do is to make sure we control our own energy, its production, and the future of our energy. We have to look to the future as well as traditional energy sources. Producing new energy resources creates an extraordinary amount of jobs. The president commented on Mitt's plan, "He's got the oil and gas part, but he doesn't have the clean energy part. And if we're only thinking about tomorrow and the next day and not thinking about ten years from now, we're not going to control our economic future. Because China, Germany, they're making these investments, and I'm not going to cede those jobs in the future to those counties."

Barack Obama (D) - 2012 Presidential Election - ProCon.org

Barack Obama (D) - 2012 Presidential Election - ProCon.org | Savannah's Political Opinion | Scoop.it

When the following question was asked, Obama's opinion was con and Romney's was pro. "Should state and local law enforcement be empowered to enforce federal immigration laws?" I understand both how this can help and/or harm us. Obama said, "I think this (law) [Arizona's SB 1070] puts American citizens who look Hispanic, are Hispanic, potentially in an unfair situation. And more importantly, it creates the prospect of 50 different laws, in 50 different states, when it comes to immigration. This is a federal job. What we have to do is take on that federal responsibility by working with border states in border security. And I told Governor Brewer that we've already put more resources into border security than we ever have. We've got more border guards in Arizona than we ever have. We just made the decision to put in additional National Guard...But without comprehensive immigration reform, which is congress's responsibility, we are not gonna solve this problem."

International Relations

http://www.politifact.com/georgia/article/2012/nov/03/obama-and-romney-square-over-international-relatio/

Romney said that Obama has not been to Israel as president. It is important to not ignore them because they are an ally. Romney visited Israel.

"Governor Romney's central economic plan calls for a $5 trillion tax cut," Obama said. "On top of the extension of the Bush tax cuts -- that's another $1 trillion -- and $2 trillion in additional military spending that the military hasn't asked for." Independent analysts confirm that number, and Romney did not deny it.

There are topics against both candidates that I do not agree with therefore I am undecided.

Presidential Debate 2012 on Role of Government: Barack Obama Says 'Budgets Reflect Choices'

In this video the president and governor debate upon government spending. Obama supports government spending in the aspect of education such as scholarships and student loans. Mitt Romney says he is all for education but he is not worried about the people that can't just ask their parents for money. I agree with Obama on this one.

First Presidential Debate 2012 (Economy, taxes, and deficit)

This video is the first 40 minutes of the first presidential debate of the 2012 election. This covers the part where they discuss taxes, economy, and the deficit. Mitt Romney presents a 5-part plan to get us energy dependent, open up more trade, crack down on China, get us to a balanced budget, and champion small business. Obama believes that we have to imporve our education system, create 2 million more slots in community colleges so people can be trained for jobs out there now, to lower corporate tax, provide tax breaks for companies keeping jobs in the states instead of shipping them overseas, get energy dependent, but also look to the future of energy, and responsibly reduce spending. In Romney's plan there is no balance out from the money lost by making exetreme tax cuts in order get rid of our debt. Studies done by economists have proved that his plan just does not work mathematically. I agree with Obama's economic plan because in order to create more jobs and help this economy out we need to look to the future. That includes education.
