Tim Blankenship's insight:

San Diego Court Unveils "Divorce In A Day"

The divorce in a day idea being presented by the San Diego Courts is a good idea, but unfortunately still falls short of helping folks get through their divorce in California.

First of all, this is really not a true divorce in a day.  This is because you still have to go through the court process and procedure.  The article even says that you still have to file your divorce papers (of course) and you have to serve your spouse.

Next you have to complete all your financial disclosures and come to an agreement on all terms of your divorce.

Only then can you make an appointment with the court to then go in and finalized your case.

This is no different than how the process has been forever!

In fact we have been doing divorce cases in a day for several years now.

We have the clients come into our office and fill out all the paperwork for their divorce.  That is a true divorce in a day.  Once the paperwork is completed, we file and serve it as normal and then submit the divorce judgment.

While there are still procedures we complete for our clients, they are essentially done with the paperwork in a day.

I have seen open house signs out in the middle of the night. I don't think that they are left there by accident, rather are there as a promotional tool.
