Pub chain fined £235k after worker killed trying to clean roof

A subsidiary of Birmingham-based pubco Mitchells and Butlers has been fined £235,000 after a Bristol man died while cleaning a pub.

Richard Pratley, 65, who was employed as a cleaner at the Snuff Mill Harvester, died after falling 1.8 metres while cleaning at a high level in an accident on 19 January 2009.

He suffered a fractured skull and died from his injuries on 23 January 2009.

A prosecution was brought by Bristol City Council's health and safety and legal teams after an investigation led by one of the council's health and safety inspectors.
