sacco
tanik dandridge's insight:

Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti were to Italian immigrants who came to the U.S at two different time periods. Both men were involved in left-wing politics and met each other at one of the meetings. The two men became friends and often went to meetings together. Like many people who were involved with left-wing politics Sacco and Vanzetti were shocked about the first world war. Both men took interest in protest meetings and when the United States became apart of the war the two men went to Mexico in order to avoid being drafted into the war. When the war was over the two men came back to the United States. On May 5, 1920 Vanzetti and Sacco were arrested and accused of the murders of Frederick Paementer and Alessandro Berardelli. Parmenter and Berardelli were killed while carrying two boxes that had money in them from a shoe factory store. Many eyewitnesses said that the rbbers looked Italian. A large amount of Italian immigrants were questioned, but eventually the authorities decided to charge Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti with the crime.

vanzetti
tanik dandridge's insight:

Sacco and Vanzetti did not have a a clear understanding of english. It was very clear from some of the answers they gave in court that they misunderstood the questioned. The trial lasted seven weeks and on July 14, 1921 both men were found guilty of first degree murder and sentenced to death. Vanzetti once said to a journalist "If it had not been for this thing, I might have livedbout my life talking at street corners to scorming men." I might have died inmarked, unknown and a failure." Now we are not a failure." This is our career and our triumph." Never in our full life can we hope to do such work for tolerence, justice, for mans understanding of man as now we do in accident." Our words, our lives and our pains nothing the taking of our lives, lives of a good shoemaker and a poor fish peddler. On August 23,1927 the day of Sacco's and Vanzetti's execution over 250,000 people took part in a silent demonstration in Boston. The names of Sacco and Vanzetti will be forever tied together.
