This article explains the way the brain works and how it doesn't actually grow very much during the 12th and 25th years of a person. This shows that the process of developing from a child into an adult can encourage child/teens to push the boundaries and this normal and important part of the child’s journey towards independence. This article also talks and explains wht the brain of a teenagers acts the way it does and traits that follow with it.

Teenage Brains is an article which explores the teenage mind through research. It is from a parental view of authority and how the society reacts to the recklessness of teens these days. It is shown that even Shakespeare had commented on the teens actions "there were no age between ten and three-and-twenty, or that youth would sleep out the rest; for there is nothing in the between but getting wenches with child, wronging the ancientry, stealing, fighting."

Society and Culture's insight:

Your homework for this weekend is to read the article and:

1. Identify the concepts you can see (just the words)

2. Describe why you can see them (e.g.. key words and ideas)

3. Explain their interaction, (the how and the why, the relationship between them, 1-2 paragraphs)

Community - Society & Culture

Presentation for Society & Culture. Concept = Community.
Society and Culture's insight:

Challenge for you all - How many concepts can you identify in this clip? Don't restrict yourself to the 11 that we have looked at, flick through your textbook and see how many others you can see (the first page of each chapter has a glossary of concepts to be studied).

Post your comments over the weekend.

culture- there were many pictures of different churches and religions were shown. There is also culture represented in the african dancers and then contrasting with the "aussie" culture at the beach. Gender- the mardi gras festival represents gender....MIRIAM

Should we adopt American spelling?

Should we adopt American spelling? | S & C 2014 | Scoop.it
Are we at a point where it's time to accept our language has been bastardized?
Society and Culture's insight:

Many concepts including Globalisation, Culture, Identity and Power have been represented in some way in this article. The article is about whether we should adopt American spelling to replace Traditional English spelling. The author talks about how we shouldn't feel the pressure to change our spelling which is a part of our identity and culture through globalisation just because America has power.

Why you should never be sorry for your selfie

Why you should never be sorry for your selfie | S & C 2014 | Scoop.it

s

lIt's time to realise those single-subject pics won't be going anywhere anytime soon. Here's why.

Society and Culture's insight:

Alrighty then; this article deconstructs selfies through all micro, meso and macro levels of the world, following its global history, its invention, its impact and many reasons why no one should be ashamed of taking one. In terms of concepts, the article relates most strongly to Persons and Culture; the identity and perception people wish to make of themselves by their selfies and how we as both a world and an individual value them and our attitudes towards them. The article though does link in well with the many other concepts; the selfie of course through technology and social media, its growth in the world as globalisation over time, the environment of social networking and the online world and so on and so on. This is useful for Society and Culture as these concepts can be identified clearly and its a good example of how they relate and flow from one another.

Fantastic choice of article and great insight into the concepts that are related and particularly identification of this topic at micro, meso and macro levels. Well done. Mrs Lowe.
