In 1941, white men went into a segregated military and people of color and women took place of the jobs the white men had. At one point, people were fascinated with jazz. Zoot suits had a lot to do with jazz that visualized segregation. Military soldiers were in Los Angeles and saw that it had became of booze and fights. After riots started, Mexican American men drove passed the armory and hurled epithets at guards.

People that wore zoot suits were called the pachucos. Zoot suits were wide brimmed hats, broad shouldered long coats. Military men started to say zoot suiters and gangsters were all in the same. Many people claimed that they were being attacked by these zoot suiters. Sailors who also claimed they were attacked got tired of it and went to beat up and strip them down.
