ServletProxy - Tomcat Wiki

Existing Servlet Proxy for J2EE engine [ like tomcat ]

1) J2EP : J2EP is a reverse proxy running on a J2EE engine. The proxy is written in java and was originally designed with Tomcat in mind, but any engine should work fine. A set of basic mapping rules are included for reverse proxing.

A set of servers is specified to be used as mappings between the proxy and Webpages. The servers all need to include a rule that is used to match any incoming request. The rules are there to decide what server to use for each request. A round robin cluster of servers is made for servicing the requests.

2) Noodle : Noodle is a set of Java classes for transparently making arbitrary changes to an HTTP request and response. You can use Noodle to create a servlet that, on every HTTP request, runs Java 'filters' that you define on the request, sends the new request off to another web server, and streams the resulting response through another set of filters.

3) Http Proxy Servlet : a simple Java servlet written to allow Tomcat and Apache to both appear to occupy port 80

multiple reverse proxy host broken

Nathan Bridgewater explained how to configure multiple reverse proxies properly with apache and IIS (without losing original domain name). I’m reposting this for myself to keep a record of this fine work.

multiple reverse proxy host broken iis serving up local server name instead of the ServerName that was originally passed to it. How to fix it….

As a developer, I don’t get to play with the IT side of things quite as much as I would like to. So I enjoy the little things, like learning how to use a reverse proxy on Apache. At home, I only have one IP coming in with my regular Internet connection, and I want the ability to run multiple servers inside my network on port 80. In the past, I’ve always just setup a new port and routed it to whichever server I wanted. 8080 here, 8081 there, etc. Well with Apache reverse proxy (mod_proxy), I found it was very easy to setup route requests to other internal servers.
