1 Well Designed Content Site & A Rare KISSmetrics Miss

1 Well Designed Content Site & A Rare KISSmetrics Miss | Responsive Web Design | Scoop.it

I’ve compiled a list of websites that produce great content, each of which has its own unique qualities. I’ll break them down and explain why they’re good and what you can take away.

KISSMetrics Misses The Mark 2 out of 3
I was looking for a great content/design mix and KISSmetrics got it right one out of the three times here. CopyBlogger is the only site in this group that both has great content and a great design.

The other two blogs may have great content, but their design is so off putting who is going to wade through their content? What makes Copyblogger work well?

* Snowfall design (long page scrolls down).
* Clear and LARGE Call-to-Actions (bet they've tested those big green buttons).
* Good use of icons that mask ads (very non-disruptive).
* Flat responsive design (probably looks great on mobile too).

* Big headline with interesting sophisticated font treatment.

* Video on homepage.

Ignore the other two suggestions here and focus on Copyblogger. Do you know a great content website? We are looking for great examples of DESIGN in content marketing. Share your favs and we will curate in.

Prescient Mashable Web Design Predictions (2012) Coming TRUE! via @dtelepathy

Prescient Mashable Web Design Predictions (2012) Coming TRUE! via @dtelepathy | Responsive Web Design | Scoop.it

Marty Note
Wow, you don't get much more money than Chuck Longanecker's 2012 predictions for web design's almost immediate future.

Chuck is CEO of Digital Telepathy and boy does he have a copious amount of telepathy based on just how TRUE each of these trends is turning out. Talk about hitting the NAIL directly on its head.

We all need to get into Chuck's head (lol) because understanding how our design tectonic plates are shifting doesn't get any better:

* Lean Design (YES).
* Animation and more sophisticated HTML5 party tricks (YES).
* Less is More (YES).
* Multi-screen, multi-platform (YES!).

Great stuff every web designer and Internet marketer should walk and talk.

Not all Clients Understand Design-Speak

Not all Clients Understand Design-Speak | Responsive Web Design | Scoop.it

If you read the stories on the Clients From Hell site, you will have a feeling you're in the wrong industry. The tales of horror try to display clients as barely functioning morons, but the truth runs deeper than that. Sure, there are those who truly are morons, as with any human being in any industry, but design is a profession of twists and turns, and terms that are learned in art school, that allow designers to communicate more with other designers than with the layperson.

Mapillary: See The Map, Add Photos To the Map, Be The Map | MIT Technology Review

Mapillary: See The Map, Add Photos To the Map, Be The Map | MIT Technology Review | Responsive Web Design | Scoop.it

Mapillary is a cool idea. Why run up and down city blocks taking pictures when your customers, advocates and contributors could do that for you. What it means to be a MAP is changing fast.

Maps used to be those things you couldn't fold back up. Now maps are evolving into evolving stage sets. You need one "map" when its six pm and time for dinner.

You need another map when you need groceries or toys for Christmas. As the line between virtual and real world collapse "map" is going to take on many new meanings.

With GPS "Map" means place, time and tribe. Why tribe? Because, as FourSquare proved our phones are smart enough to know when our friends' phones are around us.

Phones become living avatars walking a digital landscape by proxy, roads we wold walk if we could TRON-UP and jump into the machine. Since we can't become digital just yet MAP will take on many new meetings.

Extend our new "map thinking" a little further and maps become games, commerce and content. These new "digital maps" will be how we tell time, know and relate to our friends and understand PLACE.

Mapillary sees the future. They know maps are more than those things we used to not be able to fold back up :).

Here are 3 great tips from an Infographic design pro:

* Keep It Clear.
* Be Iconic.
* Know the rules.

Come to think of it those tips apply to pretty much anything we lucky few Internet marketers do :). M
