The resulting news and social media backlash for the boutique involved and Switzerland itself (the country’s tourism office also apologized to her) was rapid and explosive, with negative commentary from news organizations, Facebook, Twitter, media publications and the like chiming in. Don’t be surprised by this! Anything that touches on deeply personal values (racism, gender equality, lifestyle, health, etc.) will quickly mushroom into an immense social media unconscious event. It will either become a social media dream or in this particular case…the ultimate social media brand reputation management nightmare.

It simply amazes me at the number of companies that claim to be Reputation Management companies that risk getting the companies they represent banned from Google or worse yet receive a huge fine from the FCC for deceptive practices. YOU are ultimately responsible even if you hired an outside company to do it for you. BUYER BEWARE!

 

 
So many just help manage the bad reviews when they come in. This reactive approach does little to actually squelch the damage, once the review is posted the damage is already done. Others post false reviews which is deceptive and will eventually get YOU in trouble. Make sure you know what the companies you hire are doing to your business. I actually had a well know reputation management firm owner say to me, “Hey we have been using this fake review posting software for 6 months and haven’t been caught so obviously it is safe”. Seriously?? You have got to be kidding me.
