25+ tools to make the most of Pinterest

25+ tools to make the most of Pinterest | Educational Use of Social Media | Scoop.it
According to a recent Piqora study, an item shared on Pinterest generates 78 cents in sales. Half of orders also happen after 2 and a half months of pinning. Another interesting number: On average, pins are 100 times more viral than Tweets! Pretty incredible, right?

Infographic: The Astounding Power Of Pinterest

Infographic: The Astounding Power Of Pinterest | Educational Use of Social Media | Scoop.it
In our upcoming October design issue, one of the many fascinating feature stories we’ve lined up is a lengthy profile of Pinterest and its elusive CEO, Ben Silbermann.

That story goes live later this week, but until then, here's an infographic about Pinterest, created by Fast Company's staff and designed by our own Ted Keller.

In this profusion of figures, you find out a few, key things about the image-sharing service. For one, it’s dominated by women. Second, something about its layout and culture stokes an enormous buying impulse. And third, major brands are getting in on the act. It’s not a stretch to say that soon, at least on retail sites, a Pinterest button might become as ubiquitous as a Facebook Like. Check out the infographic, or tour the major findings in the accompanying slide show...

Collect Travel Ideas and Cool Destinations with Trippy

Collect Travel Ideas and Cool Destinations with Trippy | Educational Use of Social Media | Scoop.it

Robin Good: Trippy is Pinterest-like social platform dedicated to the collection and sharing of travel and destination ideas.

Just like Pinterest, Trippy offers the opportunity to create thematic boards by either capturing unique content and images from the web

as well as by repinning other people's cool ideas.

From the About page: "So we're back, to change the way people travel once again. There are hundreds of travel sites made for you to plan your trip. Doesn't make much sense though, considering you're probably not an expert on places you're visiting, especially if you've never been before. Plus, travel sites are typically an unfortunate mix of questionable content from crowd-sourcing, "local experts" (aka, strangers), and people paid to write fake reviews. Trippy is the first site designed to offer a "friend-sourced" solution to the long-standing problem of untrustworthy and irrelevant travel content."

From the official site: "Trippy's trip planning tool allows you to create a trip itinerary based on the places you're considering, which can be shared with your friends to collaborate on ideas and recommendations.

Trips also work with our full-featured iPhone app so that you can view your travel plans and create trip albums on the go."

I was introduced to Pinterest by one of my students about six months before the boom that made Pinterest a household word.

I wish I'd seized the opportunity and jumped right in. However, at first I just didn't get it.  Now in hindsight I realize that Pinterest is a curation platform-- one that appeals to millions.  Needless to say I'm now curating a dozen different interests!

Everything You Need to Know About the New Pinterest

Everything You Need to Know About the New Pinterest | Educational Use of Social Media | Scoop.it

Pinterest had the good fortune of surging in popularity relatively soon after launching its beta in 2010. However, after registering millions of users, the social network still had a lot of work to do.

At first, the site was buggy, the UI wasn't especially intuitive and the overall service lacked some significant features. But what saved the visual social network was Pinterest's game-changing design.

A Curated Collection of Pinterest-Like Web Sites: Pinteresti.st | Educational Use of Social Media | Scoop.it

Robin Good: A curated collection of Pinterest-like web sites, in perfect Pinterest-like style.

As an increasing number of brands and smaller publishers are adopting a Pinterest-like layout approach to make their content more accessible, someone has decided to start collecting and organizing the best of these.

"Pinterest Pinterest Pinterest. It’s spread like a hot, juicy rumor over Twitter, infecting (or improving, depending on how you look at it) the way we use the Internet. Think of it as the Pinterest-ifictation of the Web.

If Tumblr were designed today it might look like Pinterest. All Pinterest did was take the Tumblr feed — a mishmash of uploaded, reblogged and remixed words and images — and make it easier to skim. Rather than scroll endlessly through a single feed of content, Pinterest displays it in as many columns as your browser width can handle..."
