Silicon Valley made an uncoordinated, unofficial announcement this week: “You, the healthcare sector, look like an awfully fine target for our techno-wizardry.” Apparently, the time is right for digital technologists to use gadgetry and the Internet to gather ever more data, and, based on that, use low-cost services to disrupt the sector from below. Samsung started with an announcement of a $50 million digital health investment fund, combined with a partnership with the University of California, San Francisco, to help validate digital health tools.
