Chicago Bears’ Brandon Marshall Challenges Jerk Fan To A Fight On Twitter

Chicago Bears’ Brandon Marshall Challenges Jerk Fan To A Fight On Twitter | Real athletes | Scoop.it
Giving celebrities a hard time is usually fair game as long as they put themselves out there and ask for it.  Just look at the backlash on social media Wednesday and Thursday Kim K.
Euan Bryans's insight:

It is wierd to see an athlete get upset about what a nobody fan said. Brandon Marshall just needs to forget about it and move on.

Euan Bryans's insight:

I am glad to see that there are still humble athletes that recognize what is going in the world. I didn't know he had wrote a book or wrote at all.

Friday Night Lights | Flemming Bo Jensen

Friday Night Lights | Flemming Bo Jensen | Real athletes | Scoop.it

Socorro High School, New Mexico. Clock strikes 7pm, the wind has died down, the air is dry and still warm from another hot day in the desert. The air smells like warm sand with a slight whiff of hot dogs. The Warriors football team and the crowd are pumped for Friday Night Lights. The visitors from Taos takes to the field first before the local heroes emerge in an appropriate epic gladiator fashion from the locker room and run onto the field. The national anthem is sung and silences the crowd in respect before the kick-off brings back the noise and cheering.

I am attending an institution in American culture, the Friday night high school football game, something I have been wanting to experience for many years. It is everything I hoped for. Socorro being a small town, I am allowed to stand right on the sideline and experience and capture all the action. I have followed football (the American version) since 1989 but this is my first live game. The intensity as the players block, run, tackle, smash into each other is spectacular and following the sideline action of the players and the coaches lends fascinating insight. Mascots, cheerleaders, ‘homecoming kings and queens’ (which is? anyway they looked great and were very popular!), zebra-stribed refs, every element was present and perfect. I snap away with the Fuji X-pro1 and the Leica M6 with a grin on my face, this is another slice of New Mexico magic.

Socorro Warriors beat the Taos Tigers 34-7 in a great game featuring a fine Warriors running game and defense. They play at home again next Friday. It is quite possible I cannot resist being on the sidelines again. Hut, hut, hut. Go Warriors.

A great description of how it feels to watch a game live. Shows how serious football is in Texas compared to other places.

Euan Bryans's insight:

It is great to know that there are still players out there that put their team before themselves. Some players care more about themselves and the money than sacrificing to get the win.

The Best Ad You’ll See This Super Bowl Weekend

The Best Ad You’ll See This Super Bowl Weekend | Real athletes | Scoop.it
The National Congress of American Indians drops a powerful spot about what the Washington football team is erasing by sticking with the name "Redskins."

Via Jacqueline Keeler
Euan Bryans's insight:

It is good to see that people are willing to stand ip to the NFL and say that the name is wrong. It is also good to see that people realize how offensive the term is and that it is racist and prejudice.

Jacqueline Keeler's curator insight, January 31, 2014 10:23 PM

"It’s a gorgeous ad, and it’s a strikingly effective illustration of why the word “Redskin” is so troublesome. It’s not just that the term has evolved from its origins as a basic explanation of physical difference, to a slur that was used to reduce Native Americans to the value of their skins, for which literal bounties were offered. In a less violent but no less significant sense, “Redskin” collapses the remarkable particularity of Native American experiences into a single identity and set of attributes."

It is amazing to see some of the skill and determination that some of these players have. the amount of physical strain these players put their body through is a true testament to the human body.
