A Call For Reform in the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA)

A Call For Reform in the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA) | Reading, Writing, and Thinking | Scoop.it

The reason I approach this topic in this essay is something I encountered during my time at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School - history. Times change, and we must keep the core of the Christian message while updating the rest. Doctrinalism is not the core of Christianity. It is a necessary part of Christianity, but not the core. After all, firm doctrines didn't emerge until a couple centuries after the Resurrection. Jesus Christ is the core. The Good News of Jesus Christ is not a theologically liberal or theologically conservative message. This is the Christian message. It is time for the PCA to reform.

A few good points here, but I'd sure need a  w h o l e  lot more information before I'd be willing to consider the remote possibility that scriptural inerrancy is an unbiblical doctrine...

Men in Uniform and Women's Psyches

The psychological gravitational pull toward a man in uniform isn't new. A 1995 article in the Los Angeles Times showcases this concept as well.
Anne Bosworth's insight:

I tend to dislike anything that presumes to know "what woment like" or want or anything like that, but I must say...handsome men do seem to become that much more handsome when they're decked out in a uniform. I never really thought of it as a psychological response to some inner desire to be protected. Who knows, though? Maybe when you're so used to having to protect yourself you don't really believe that even a strapping fellow in a uniform will do the job without turning out to be some sort of disaster in the end.

How To Write Letters: A Vintage Guide to the Lost Art of Epistolary Etiquette, 1876

How To Write Letters: A Vintage Guide to the Lost Art of Epistolary Etiquette, 1876 | Reading, Writing, and Thinking | Scoop.it
A letter should be regarded not merely as a medium for the communication of intelligence, but also as a work of art.
Anne Bosworth's insight:

Don't you wish the days of receiving handwritten letters would return? It's the most wonderful thing holding and looking at words that have poured from a dear one's hand. Looking at this book, and thinking about the letters, makes me wish that I could come home one afternoon and find a handwritten letter filled with beautiful words from someone we hold very dear in our hearts.

NewsCred has become a big player in the news business by using algorithms to bring relevant stories to clients looking for content. Now, the tech intensive company is adding a new product to its mix — humans.

Robin Good's curator insight, January 25, 2013 12:09 PM

Human curation is in demand. The ability to have someone who can do background research, and can collect relevant links, related stories, images and videos on a specific topic or for a specific assignment is not something you easily find around.

This is what Newscred, a highly automated news aggregator, has realized and immediately met with a dedicated offering for its customers.

From the original article on Paidcontent.org: "NewsCred, a tech-intensive news aggregator, is an up-and-coming player in the media industry thanks to licensing agreements with elite publishers like the Economist and Bloomberg.

The company relies on these partnership deals and its own algorithms to ship stories to hundreds of publishers and brands like Pepsi and Overstock that are looking for quality content.

NewsCred has long relied on automated curation tools to find and deliver relevant content to its clients, but now the company is adding something more to its journalism — humans.

This morning, the company announced a new service named Editorial Curation that lets NewsCred clients buy hands-on human help for their story collection."

Interesting.  7/10

Nothing makes the earth seem so spacious as to have friends at a distance; they make the latitudes and longitudes.  ~Henry David Thoreau

We miss someone so very dear to us and wonder every day as we pray if our dear one will ever be restored to us. It is really something how grief comes upon grief. When one person is grieving a very dear one in heaven, the people on earth grieve the loss of the one grieving on earth.
