Donald Clark Plan B: Good, bad and ugly: 7 critics of social media

Donald Clark Plan B: Good, bad and ugly: 7 critics of social media | RandomPromotion | Scoop.it

I’m of an age (56) where lots of my contemporaries show contempt towards social media. It’s rarely a reasoned argument, simply a sneer accompanied by a ‘I’m too good for that sort of thing’ attitude. Euan Semple made the valid point on Facebook that “Not being attracted to the social web is OK but adopting a sneering tone when you tell me that, frankly, isn’t.” and that it’s not easy dealing with the criticism as the debate as it’s very difficult arguing the case for something your opponent has never used or has no real knowledge of.

Apple testing Android-like local voice dictation for iOS

Apple testing Android-like local voice dictation for iOS | RandomPromotion | Scoop.it

Apple is testing a local, offline version of Dictation voice input for iOS devices, according to strings of code found inside of the iOS 7 beta. Currently, when an iOS user uses their voice to input text using Dictation, the iOS device will use software that uploads your speech to the cloud to be converted into text. Because this relies on an internet connection and a cloud backend, this could sometimes mean errors and long-loading times, as well as some unwanted data usage…

Stephanie Smetana's curator insight, July 9, 2013 4:15 PM

I scooped this article from Bonnie Burns, and I loved the way she commented, "It’s an SEO + Social Media + PR win." This is so true of the PR and social media world. It's all about gaining trust and getting your brand out there, while still reaching for the top places in a Google search.

Another important aspect of this article to note, is Trond Lyngbo's comment that you should not just include social media into your SEO strategy, you must also integrate all these things together: SEO, social media and public relations. If you intelligently integrate all of these, the impact is multiplied; to compete, companies must evolve and integrate.

Creating Music with iPads - iPad and Technology in Music Education

Creating Music with iPads - iPad and Technology in Music Education | RandomPromotion | Scoop.it

"One area that I don’t have time to explore very often during the school year is creating music on my iPad. It seems with all the day to day activities of teaching that I totally loose touch with musical explorations and composing. I’ve been taking more time lately to do this and I am floored at what I can do with an iPad and a few apps. I am not going to give you a history lesson here but I will say that at one time in my career I dreamed of creating a wonderful MIDI lab outfitted with computers, keyboards, speakers and mixers for my students to use. That dream never happened because of the crazy cost involved. My dream has been reshaped. Here is what I’ve found…."

Wonderful technological developments, making music creating accessbile and engaging for everyone.

Cristian Barkan's curator insight, December 9, 2013 12:10 PM

I think this is pretty cool, if you have a iPad you can make music by just downloading apps.  You can take a iPad anywhere, you can be bored, or sitting somewhere ust waiting and  you can just pulled out your ipad and start making music and that is of course if you are into music.

Alanis Tittemore's curator insight, December 7, 2014 1:27 PM

The involvement the Apple products has had in the music industry is just amazing. In Mr. Shimmons article, he mentions all the new apps created to make music that sounds somewhat professional at a very low to no cost. This news all that bad considering now humans can teach the youth how to compose music and possibly make it easier to learn instruments. However, it is becoming a growing problem for the industry itself because everyone wants to be their 'own producer' and people are paying less for record labels.

An App to Help Doctors Diagnose Dementia

An App to Help Doctors Diagnose Dementia | RandomPromotion | Scoop.it
There is an app to make every part of life simpler. And this one helps doctors do their job.

Doctors can now reduce process of testing for dementia from three years to 10 minutes.

Cantab, a new iPad app from Cambridge Cognition, is designed to help early diagnoses of dementia. The technology, based on testing developed at the University of Cambridge, is designed to be easy for patients to use.

Cantab is available in 20 language, with options to encrypt test results for printing or including in a patient’s file.

The company warns that Cantab is only meant to aid preliminary diagnosis and is not a comprehensive recommendation. The test tracks scores for both mood and functional impairment, which give doctors a better idea of how to proceed with screening and treatment.

Rickey Jones's curator insight, July 14, 2013 6:36 PM

Expect to see a proliferation of these kind of mobile apps geared to health care delivery, health care providers or provider organizations, and available for Windows 8 in addition to iOS and Android mobile devices. This trend may cause some discruption in the medical device industry unless that industry shifts its resources to extended range real-time medical sensor development. Traditional centralized hospital telemmetry may be shadowed by nurses wearing very lightweight devices near waistt and a single headphone/mic in their ear allowing them to hear alarms from medication pumps, cardiac monitor flat line or lead dislodge detect, O2 SAT drops,BP deviations outside baseline for the individual patient, patient assistance calls, etc on the entire floor. Nurses need to be able to request assistance from other team members using handsfree communication. Nurses must be able to triage multiple alarms as they do now. Improved reliability and hardening of wireless protocols currently implemented in hospital settings or new ones will be required. The need for adequate staffing levels to ensure patient safety and effectively manage quality of care will not diminish. The length of time for pending alarms will be recorded and trended. Nursing staff should have the option to replay alarm location and time or automated message and save it but not delete it. This will make for a quieter environment for non-ambulatory patients thus an improved patient care experience. Notably, Kaiser Permanente is partnering with app developers who can show evidence of commercial marketability and investing in those innovative fledgling startups.

robyns tut's curator insight, September 26, 2013 4:51 AM

This is absolutely wonderful. To think the same device we use to make a call or take a photo with can actually help people's mental well being by aiding these doctors- Justine Pearce
