Bridging the gap between evidence and practice: a multi-perspective examination of real-world drug education (Scotland)

An audit of school drug education in Scotland in the early 2000s found that in key respects lessons departed from what research had shown was effective prevention and that despite national guidelines, there was no consistent national or even local approach.

I think that this is a great article as in a lot of families children are given sips of their parents/relatives alcoholic drinks and are both unaware of the future risks.

Any moral standards caught in a Crossfire (NSW)

I've known the Cross for more than 40 years. In that time the sex-and-strip joints have become tawdrier, the hookers tottering in the side streets appear to have fewer obvious needle tracks and fewer bruises but their eyes are just as soulless and the mobs of young toughs have more tatts, which at least makes it easier to identify the offenders in police line-ups.

Gonski is no longer just the name of an eminent Australian. It is now a noun in common parlance, a website at igiveagonski.com.au and part of a campaign linking literacy standards to additional funds for the schooling sector generally. It is also a cabinet submission. But while the federal government, we understand, has just started to debate its response in cabinet, for schools there are still many unanswered questions and several unresolved concerns.

The recent, shocking violence in Sydney's Kings Cross has acted as lighting rod  for politicians, bar operators and community members screaming for change. But  will a positive change really take effect? Across Australia entertainment  precincts like Brisbane's Fortitude Valley, Surfers Paradise and Melbourne's CBD  have been struggling to contain alcohol related violence for years. This is not  a new problem.
