Soon, a student spl train for Pune - Daily News & Analysis | railways | Scoop.it

The Indian Railways is planning to launch a student special tourist train, Azaadi Express, from Pune thrice a year. It will have special packages for students where they would have to pay Rs 8,800 to visit nine destinations for a tour journey of 13 days and 12 nights with accommodation.

Speaking at a press conference, additional general manager of Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation Limited (IRCTC) Rahul Himalian said that the railways had received a good response from the city for previous packages.

“We have a special Thailand tour starting from July 13 as well. Of the 41 tourist destination packages, 23 are from Pune. That is why we wanted to give something more to the city which has given us a good response so far. Hence we decided to start this special train. Once the package is finalised on a final rate of Rs 8,800, we will announce the dates and schedule of starting the special train.”

He added that in order to diversify services and improve the turnover of Indian Railways, IRCTC has started with international tour packages. In the financial year 2008-2009, the turnover of Indian Railways was Rs 6 crore which has gone up in 2012-2013 to Rs 87 crore. That is why we are adding more international destinations this year.”

Other packages starting on August 17, 2013 include a 3 nights/4 days Dubai package tour where IRCTC is tying up with an airline to offer the tour at Rs 43,699 per person.

A Saptrang Dakshin Darshan special tourist train is also being started and the passengers can board the train from Kalyan as well as Pune. The standard package of the tour will be Rs 14,999 and comfort package will cost Rs 22,500 for a tour of 9 nights/10 days.

It will cover heritage and pilgrimage of destinations of South India as well as Goa, Tirupati, Rameshwaram, Madurai, Kanyakumari, Trivandrum and Kovalam. This package tour will start from November 14.
