Payoff for picking Pandora on your drive? Even fewer ads | Radio 2.0 (En & Fr) | Scoop.it
With Pandora's launch of car-specific audio ads, free Pandora listeners who use automobile systems to listen to the Web's top radio service will hear fewer ads -- and marketers will have better targeting.

"With so much music being consumed in the car, Pandora automotive platforms allow listeners to customize that experience and we are excited to be able to connect with consumers in that environment," State Farm Advertising Director Ed Gold said in a statement. State Farm, as well as BP, Ford Motor Company, and Taco Bell, are among the national brands on board with the new format.

Lisnr Helps Artists and Brands Reach Customers at Relevant Times

Lisnr Helps Artists and Brands Reach Customers at Relevant Times | Radio 2.0 (En & Fr) | Scoop.it
Lisnr is an app that uses inaudible beacons to deliver content to customers at highly relevant times.

When we think of sound, we typically think of music.  But what about sounds we as humans can’t hear?  Do those inaudible sounds have any real use cases for us and if they do what are they?  One Cincinnati-based startup, Lisnr, thinks its found the perfect use case for such inaudible sounds.

The idea behind Lisnr is simple: reach customers at relevant times.  But how do you reach customers when it makes sense for you as a brand but also for them as a customer? That’s a problem that has been harder to solve.  When it comes to companies who advertise on TV, it’s a matter of just getting your product in front of as many people as possible. Google’s search ads have done wonders for targeted ads, showing relevant ads to people based on their searches.  However, while this kind of thing has worked well online it hasn’t really transferred back over into the offline world.  And that’s where Lisnr’s inaudible sounds or what they refer to as beacons come into play.

AOL Sells Winamp And Shoutcast Music Services To Online Radio Aggregator Radionomy | TechCrunch | Radio 2.0 (En & Fr) | Scoop.it

Some more detail on the fate of Winamp and Shoutcast, the legacy digital music services that owner AOL (which also owns TechCrunch)originally planned to shut down but then haltedpending a sale. They are not being bought byMicrosoft, as we had heard when we first reported news of a sale. The properties are instead being acquired by Radionomy — an international aggregator of online radio stations headquartered in Brussels, Belgium.

The Radionomy connection was first noticed by a couple of people, including one Bryon Stouton the Winamp forums and Carsten Knobloch, who saw that Winamp’s nameservers, but not Shoutcast’s, had been transferred to Radionomy. We have since learned from a reliable source that the deal is for both properties and should be finalised by Friday, if not sooner.

Why this year’s CES is important: Audio and Auto – RAIN News | Radio 2.0 (En & Fr) | Scoop.it

The annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is an important snapshot of the digital product landscape, with a view toward the future. As such, CES commands attention, but each year brings a different focus, depending on consumer and product trends. when netbooks hit in 2009, that category was hot at CES — only to quickly fade when tablets and ultrabooks came along.

CES 2014 is the most important CES in memory, for anyone interested in radio, Internet radio, audio, and mobile infotainment. Two of the most active categories going into this week’s show are audio and autos.

Hands on with Moodsnap, first Image-Based Music Streaming app, delivering contextually relevant music mapped to personal taste

Hands on with Moodsnap, first Image-Based Music Streaming app, delivering contextually relevant music mapped to personal taste | Radio 2.0 (En & Fr) | Scoop.it
In case you needed another launchpad for music discovery, here's an app that uses images to curate your Spotify Premium playlists.

Discovering music and creating music playlists can truly be a fun endeavor, especially if you use tools that allow you to go about the task in a unique way. Moodsnap is a new image-based music streaming app that allows users to choose songs based on a mere photograph. Powered by Spotify and The Echo Nest, Moodsnap has reportedly been in closed-beta since May and is now available to anyone with a Spotify Premium account and an iOS device.

“Through research, what I found to be missing from today’s music apps is the perfect balance between contextual relevance, trusted curation, and simplicity through intuitive design,” says David Blutenthal, Founder and CEO of Moodsnap. “Our mission was to develop an app that aims to deliver on all three. That’s how Moodsnap was born.”

But… how exactly can images help you create a music playlist? And how accurate will the results be? We went hands on to find out.
