How Siemens uses storytelling to emotionally engage clients and staff

How Siemens uses storytelling to emotionally engage clients and staff | Quality and leadership 2 | Scoop.it
Keith Ritchie, storyteller at Siemens, talks to Marketing about his role as a storyteller and just how powerful telling a story can be to engage clients, potential clients, and staff. What does story-telling mean to you?

Jill Beech's insight:

Story telling is so powerful, we can use this in the NHS to learn from patient experiences. The story creates the emotional response, this causes a change in our brain ( thank you Alys) which makes it stick, it changes behaviours. Powerful indeed.

Brandon Hoe's curator insight, May 3, 2013 4:54 AM

Keith Richie, a storyteller at Siemens, describes how Siemens uses storytelling in corporate communications, media relations, corporate affairs and other areas of the company. He states that storytelling has been used at the company to help convince prospective customers that their needs can be met by Siemens, even if the story that the prospective customer reads doesn't necessarily relate directly to their particular industry or field of expertise.

In an example of using storytelling internally, Richie describes Siemen's attempt to create a culture of safety in the organization by using the story of an employee who lost an eye when he was a young apprentice. The use of authentic, first-person storytelling conveys a powerful message to the audience, making the effort effective.

Richie also describes how he uses each story that he creates across multiple media channels to amplify the reach of that story and to help ensure that the ROI on the investment to create each story is maximized. He says, "We use a full mixture of channels. We would use it at trade shows, we use it on the iPad for Salesforce, we use it in print material, we use it in advertising, we use it online, social media. You’ve still got to take a multi-channel approach to reach your audience."
