Tourist Attraction

The Camuy Caverns consist of over 200 caves. The park is 268 acres. The caverns was washed/carved away by the camuy river about 1 million years ago. Camuy cave is the third largest cave in the world. The caves has bats and unique fish that is completely blind.

Important Holiday

This event is one of the top 5 biggest hispanic events with about 500,000 people coming to it. It celebrates when the three wise men went to visit christ and exchange gifts. At this parade they give out presents to the needest children. They first start off with a vip parade, full of bright colors and animals. After the parade they have an exclusive party.

Industries

The two main types of industries in puerto rico is manufacturing and construction. The labor-intensive part of manufacturing covers food, tobacco, leather, and clothing. The capital-intensive part of manufacturing covers pharmaceuticals, chemicals, metal products, electronics and machinery. Construction in puerto rico is one of the most rapidly growing parts of their economy. Billions of dollars has been given to puerto rico to improve their country's image with improving their roads, and tourists attractions.

Typical Food

Puerto Rican food is similar to spanish, cuban, and mexican foods. Some odd foods that puerto rican's eat that you normally wouldnt eat in america would be like breaded calf brains, stuffed tounge, and calf kidneys. Just like americans though, puerto rican's love chicken. A lot of their chicken recipes has came to american like their "arroz con pollo" which is their chicken with rice. The agricultural part in puerto rico is so high that they grow a lot of the vegetables that they use in their meals.

Puerto Rico has a commonwealth type government, associated with the US. The US president is like the chief of the state. Then comes their governor, which is the head of the government. Then they have their own House of Representatives and Senate.The US controls everything in Puerto Rico that the federal government would control in the US.

The red stripes stands for the "blood" that nourishes the three branches of their government; Legislative, Executive and Judiciary. The white stripes represents individual liberty and the rights that keeps in perfect balance of their form of government. The blue triangle stands for the "Republican Government", represented by the three branches. The white lone star represents "The Commonwealth of Puerto Rico". Even though the flag was created in 1895, the sybolisms wasnt approved till 1952.

Puerto Rico has warm temperatures throughout the year, with 82 degrees F being the most average. They also have a tropical climate. Normally our dry season would be during the summer time, their's is between November through May with scattered showers. Their hurricane season is between June and November. The south always has higher temperatures than the north, and the mountains is always a few degrees cooler.

Maria Bibiana Benitez was the first puerto rican poet, she was also the first woman to write a dramatic play. Her most famous poems is Soneto, A La Vejez, and Diálgo Alegórico. Another famous person is Rafael Alers. He is a famous musician and orchestra director and composer. His most famous work was called Violeta. A lot of people from american also may know Raul Julia he played on "The addams family". He also played in The Rookie and Tequilla Sunrise.

Typical Crop/Agriculture

In the 1950's puerto rico's major crops was sugar cane, coffee and tobacco. The agriculture part of puerto rico has decreased majorly. The exotic fruits, cattle, dairy products, and poultry has increased but the agricutural part has decreased. Puerto Rico does do costal fishing, but most of the fish comes from america. With puerto rico being very mountainous its hard to find a lot of flat areas to be able to grow a lot of crops.

Religion

Most of Puerto Rico's population is Roman Catholic(75%). Protestan Christian is 15%. Muslim is about 10%. Other Religions practiced in Puerto Rico is Pentecostals, Jehovah's witnesses, Evangelical Christians, and Latter Day Saints.Even though people practice other religions, most all go to the Catholic Church to recieve sacraments.

The literacy rate for puerto rico is based on 15-24 year olds. The youth rate for girls has went down from 94% to 88%. The youth rate for boys has also went down from 93% to 86%. The adult rate for women has went up from 86% to 91%. The adult rate for men has also went up from 88% to 90%.

Puerto Rico does not have a leader or president, they are a self-governing country. Their government type is commonwealth. Puerto Rico is US citizens can vote at age 18, but they do not have to vote in US presidential elections.  SInce Puerto Rico does not have a leader their governor is more-or-less their leader. Their governor's name is Luis Fortuño.
